T-A photo by Sharon Specht, Elimville W1 hears report Editor's note: the follewing letter was sent to Mrs. Anne Vander Wiel of Exeter following the report in newspapers of the school bus accident on Huron St. E. on May 4, in which 31 pupils and the bus driver herself, received injuries. Mrs. Vander Wiel was the driver of that bus, According to the Exeter OPP report that accident' was caused by a pupil on the bus who distracted the driver. Dear Anne; Although we have never met one another, I felt I had to write to you today, following your unfortunate accident. I, too, am a school bus driver, 50 years Old, and share a feeling of kinship. I have had a little problem of discipline that seemed to come to a head on Wednesday and the picture of your accident in the newspaper, fully justified my concern and was shown to the children following a reprimand by the two principals of the two schools to which I drew the children. I know it takes just a second or two ofdistractionto cause such an accident and I am in total sympathy and support for you. It is just lucky that it was no worse. Hoping your wounds and bruises soon heal and you are fully recuperated, allowing you to return to work. I'll be thinking of you with interest. The Opening Ode and Creed started the meeting, The roll call was answered by "An industry of Huron County." Mrs. Elva Routly gave the hospital report. Mrs. Marjorie Johns gave a report from the conference she attended in Waterloo. A donation was given to ARC Industry in Dashwood, The delegates to the District Annual to he held at the Crediton Community Centre May 20 are Mrs. Grace Pym, Mrs. Isabelle 'Fletcher, Mrs. Jean Lynn and Mrs. Ina Skinner. It was announced that tickets were available for the Huron Country Playhouse which the Institute hopes to attend on August 12 to see "Anne of Green Gables. President, Mrs. Grace Pym, presented the retiring secretary- treasurer Mrs. Annie Johns with a gift. The Agriculture and Canadian Industries committee of Mrs. Jean Lynn and Mrs. Marie Brock were in charge of the program. Mrs. Marjorie Johns led in a sing song. Mrs. Lynn had a kit from the loan library on wood finishing which she discussed. She also gave a comical reading. Mrs. Brock led in a "Quiz E-Q" concerning air and water pollution. Mrs. Marion Skinner discussed the stitches the 4-H club had in "A Touch of Stit- chery.". She showed the mitred corner and also the twisted cord. There were samples of the dif- ferent stitches passed around. The meeting closed with lunch. A large number from this community attended the "Music Night" at South Huron District High School Thursday evening. The Senior Choir and the Junior Choir from Usborne Central School both performed. Achievement Day for the three Elimville 4-1-1 clubs completing "A Touch of Stitchery" was held on Saturday. Elimville I presented a skit "Which Girl is Best", Elimville II presented "A Touch of Stitchery, A Touch of You", and Elimville III presented an exhibit "Embroidery stitches and their uses" with Dorothy Bax as commentator. Elaine Pym and Dorothy Bax received County Honors and Nancy Hern received Provincial Honors. Young People The Elimville Young People's class have been studying dif- ferent religions during Sunday School. The past Sunday, the teachers:Mr, Howard Pym, Mr. Howard Johns and Mrs. Martin DeJonge and the students: Mary Johns, Carol Allen, Elaine Pym, Carol DeJonge and Kathy Cooper attended the service at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. The CGIT Mother and Daughter banquet was held at Elimville United Church Tuesday. Mrs. Joy Kerslake, one of the leaders, proposed a toast to the girls and Laurel Hodgert replied. Donna Stewart proposed a toast to the mothers and Mrs. Grace Pym replied. Ruth Bray favoured with a piano solo. The three CGIT leaders, Mrs. Sharon Lynn, Mrs. Bev. Mellenger and Mrs. Ker- slake lead in the Graduation Service. The two members graduating were Diane Hodgert arid Laurel Hodgert. Carol Allen and Lori Lynn Stewart lead in a sing song. Mary Johns thanked the women who served the meal. Brenda Hodgert introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Pat. Ballantyne, who showed slides on the trip she and her husband took to Mexico. She also had many lovely articles on display. Kathy Cooper thanked Mrs. Ballantyne and presented her with a gift. The mystery mothers were then presented with a gift revealing who their mystery daughter had been for the past year. Pearl Buswell of Centralia spent the weekend with Cheryl Stewart Several from this community attended the folk musical "Natural Life" at Calvary United Church, Dashwood on Sunday evening, Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Jeffery, Alan and Connie visited on Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. John McLauchlan of London. Rev. Ted Stephens of the Brucefield Pastoral charge was the minister at church on Sunday while Rev. Barry Robinson was the guest .preacher at Kippen Youth Anniversary. Twenty-two ladies attended a miscellaneous shower on Friday evening for Mrs. Bert Robinson, newlywed, at the home of Mrs. Glen Lamport assisted by Mrs. Bev Alexander. A short program was enjoyed and lunch was served. Mr. & Mrs. Robinson are residing in Lucan. After a number of years, several driving courses and many learner's permits, I was finally issued a driver's license. My joy was enchanted when my husband gave me a set of car keys and a gasoline credit card. On the morning of my maiden run, I realized that my husband's confidence in my driving had not been as complete as I had thought. He had not, I discovered given me a key to the garage. A woman wears a sweater to accentuate the positive and a girdle to eliminate the negative. Remember It's perfectly alright to pray for a good harvest , but the Good Lord expects you to keep on hoeing.
