A TALENTED young barbershop quartet group from Lucan will appear on CFPL-TV's Junior Talent Hour on
Sunday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. on Channel 10. Left to right are Jane Hardy, Cheryl Hardy, Sheryl Noyes

Sunday morning Rev.

the Psalms.

Sunday evening the Lucan
Revival Centre was host to the
Bible Society.Mr. Jim Robertson
and Rev, Jack Thompson led the
special part of the service which
included a film strip entitled
"The Thief" and information on
the walkathon to he held in June.

The Lucan Women's Institute
conveners met at the Masonic
Hall on Wednesday evening to
plan the program for 197677.
Members were reminded of the
visit to Clandeboye Institute May
11 at 2:00 p.m. in St. James
Anglican Church Hall, They
should meet at the Masonic Hall
in Lucan by 1:45 p.m. for tran-
sportation,
Members were also reminded
of the "Mystery Bus Trip" to be
sponsored by the Branch on June
10. Reserve your ticket early by

to.be a popular trip.
Bible Society meets
The 1976 rally of the Lucan
Branch of the Ontario Bible
Society was held at the Revival
Centre on Sunday evening. Rev.
Jack Thompson Western Ontario
Secretary for the Society, from
London, showed a filmstrip "The
Thief" telling the story of how the
Bible Society is reaching the
people of New Guinea, through
the missionaries. Jim Robertson,
Chairman of the Lucan Branch
read the scripture and the service
was conducted by Rev. Ray
Brewster.
The forms for the annual
"Walk-A-Thon", on June 5 are
now available from the Sunday
School superintendents.

The theme of Rev. Hwart
Madden's message Sunday
morning was "What Happened to
You. Saul of Tarsus?", the
question asked by King Agrippa.
Mrs. A. Jones, sang a beautiful
solo "All in the April Evening",

Luca n Seniors
visit Granton
Approximately 40 members of
the Lucan Senior Citizens Club,
both the Sunshine Group and the
Busy Buddies' Craft Group met
at the centre at 1:30 p,m. on
Thursday and drive in various
cars to the Scout Hall in Granton
for a very enjoyable afternoon of
cards, pool, carpet ball and
chatting, with the Friendly
Neighbours Seniors' Club of
Granton.
This Club has made and is
making excellent use of their
New Horizons grant on the three
floors of the Scout Hall and while
the Good Book says "Thou shalt
not covet" the Lucan members
could not help but do so, par-
ticularly the space available for
different activities, A sincere.

refuse packing has been greatly
simplified.
The machine itself is most
impressive, with only two

27 cubic yards yet needs only a
single axle truck to carry it. The

Tea raises
over $300
The lovely` home of Mrs, Jack
Murdy was the scene of the
second Daffodil Tea, held under
the convenership of the Service to
Patients Chairperson, Mrs.
George Jervis, assisted by Mrs.
M. H. Hodgins.
Mrs. Murdy and Mrs. Jervis
received the guests and offered
tickets on three quilted tapestry
dimensional pictures. These were
won by Mrs, Isobel Simpson,
Mrs. Hugh David and Mrs. Louis
Raycraft. These beautiful pic-
tures were handcrafted by Mrs.
Jervis. In the afternoon, Mrs.
Dean Gibson, Mrs. Heber Davis
and Mrs. M. H. Hodgins served
with Rev. Mary Mclnally of
Granton, pouring tea, and Mrs.
Murray Hodgson making the tea.
In the evening, Mrs. Karl O'Neil,
former Service-to-Patients co-
chairperson, poured tea, with
Mrs. Robert llarloff, Mrs. Tim
Alce of Granton and Mrs. Don
Ankers serving. Mrs, Hodgins
made the tea.
Mrs. Jervis would like to thank
all those who contributed cookies
and their time to make the
Tea so successful. Just over $300
was. raised for the Campaign,
from this effort,
Over 100 people shared in the
first Great Family Ride for
Cancer, sponsored by che Lucan-
Biddulph Branch of the Canadian
Cancer Society, on Sunday. All
Three inmates of the House of
Concord, Robert McLaughlin,
Clinton Warnurst and Daniel
Shaw have been charged with
robbery with violence. They have
been charged with beating up and
stealing another inmate's money,
Lucan OPP reported.
In other investigations, four
liquor seizures were made and
charges are being processed in
each instance. 24 charges were
laid under the Highway Traffic
Act and one warning issued.
Seven collisions were in-
vestigated with minor injuries to
two persons and damages
estimated at $4,210.
On Tuesday morning, a car
driven by Earl Roberts, RR 3
Hanover, collided with a school
bus driven by Walter Wyatt, RR
1, Arva. The accident occurred on
Highbury Avenue just north of
Con. 6. None of the 41 bus
passengers were injured. Const.
N. A. Campbell set damages at
$850.
Two car fires occurred also on
Tuesday. A car driven by Vicki
Gee, RR 1 Centralia, caught fire
while on Main Street, damaging
the hood, engine and wiring.
Const. J. A. Wilson set damages
at $300.
While on Highway 7, 3/4 mile
west of Highbury, a car driven by
Tammy Peckham caught fire in
the rear seat. The car was gutted
by the fire and Const, D. R. Vance
set damages at $700.
On Thursday morning on Conc.
8, London township, just west of
Highway 4, a car driven by
Judson Lee, RR 1 Arva, left the
road and struck a Bell Telephone
box. Const. B. D. Munro set
damages at $710.
A car driven by Frank McNutt,
London left the road on Saturday
night on Highway 7, 11/2 miles
east of Ailsa Craig, and rolled
over', The driver was taken to
University Hospital, London by
Haskett's (Lucan), suffering cuts
and bruises. Const, Vance set
damages at $600.
On Sunday morning on County
Road 16, :3 .1 miles west of High-
way 4, a car driven by Clinton
Johre, RR 1 Arva, left the road
and struck a fence. Johre was
taken to University Hospital by
Hasketts (Lucan) suffering
bruises. Damages were set at
$450.
On Sunday morning, Thomas
Sharp, RR 1, Thorndale, advised
his pick-up truck was struck
while parked in his driveway,
Approximately $600 damages
occurred to the right rear fender
and bumper.

Mrs. Ed Melanson opened the
monthly meeting of the Evening
Unit of the Lucan UCW with a
poem and the leader Mrs. James
Lockyer welcomed members and
friends. She said the roll call in
May would be answered with a
Bible verse containing the word
"Mother", that each member
would bring a plant, cutting, etc.,
for sale, that the Couples' Club
Garage Sale would be held at 129
Main SI., at the home of Bob and
Helen Patterson on May 8, that
• the Explorer "Bunny Tea" is
May 29, and reminded all con-
veners for the General UCW of
the 5 dozen squares, cookies, etc.

Mrs. George Jervis led in
worship using the theme
"Planting and Reaping,"
assisted by Mrs. A. E. Reilly,
with Mrs. Harold Cobleigh at the
piano. Mrs. Jervis mentioned the
many seeds that we as
Christians, should plant during
our daily lives.
Mrs. M. H. Hodgins, program
convener for the meeting, in-
troduced the speaker, Mrs. David
Park, General UCW president,
who ,shared with those present
her experiences, by word and
picture, of her recent visit to
Cuba. Certainly there is much to
be said for the situation in Cuba
at the present time, as compared
with what had been experienced
by the Cubans prior to the
revolution.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Reilly and Mrs. Lockyer.
Did this deter her? No, — She and
a friend went into farm houses'
along the way and had the tire
pumped up. When someone at
"home base" got worried about
Activity is a way of life around
the Lucan Legion and here are a
few dates to mark on your
calendar as we know you would
not wish to miss any of them.
May 8, Carl MacNaughton will
be entertaining in the lounge.
Now here is a good opportunity
for those of you who have not
visited the Legion for the past few
weeks. Come on over and see how
the renovations are progressing.
You will be amazed and we feel
certain you will agree when
completed we will have a lounge
of which we will all be proud,

540's Charter President,
Comrade Percy Vahey, are in-
vited to the Legion Lounge to
assist the Comrades of the
Branch to suitably honor
Comrade Percy who will be 85-
years-young on that date. Oh yes,
we will have a birthday cake,
coffee, a sing-a-long — just a real
happy time and we hope a
memorable one for this grand
gentleman and dual war veteran,
of whom we are all so proud.
Here's the ringer no one will
want to miss. On May 15 at 7:00
p.m., Branch 540, Royal
Canadian Legion Old Sweats will
play a challenge ball game
against the C.F.P.L. (T.V.) ball
team, at the arena baseball park.
Following the game a social
evening will be held in the legion
hall along with dancing to the
music supplied by the People's
Choice. Here is an opportunity to
meet and speak with those
celebrities you see and listen to
on the tube. This should prove to
the two of them and sent out a
search party, she completed the
ride, just the last mile, on a
borrowed bike. More power to

nesday, May 12, 8:30 pm. sharp,
nominations and elections will be
held at the Lucan Legion. All
voting members are urged to
make a special effort to attend
and cast their ballot. Let's give
our elected President and
Executive a real vote of con-
fidence by having a large turn out
— and by your exercising your
democratic right of voting, our
elected members will know they
were placed in office by a
majority of the members.

manned supply depots' at each
end of the ride, in the Scout Hall
in Granton and the Lions Club
Park shelter in Lucan, serving
coffee and cookies, with pop and
chips for the children, donated by
the Lions' Club. Thanks to Bryan
Smith and Ray Scott of Westons
and Vachons, for donating the
cookies. Also thanks to all who
helped make this first ride so
successful, those who rode,
sponsored, served at check
points or at the above mentioned
places, etc. Special thanks to the
organizer, Gordon Barker.
Between $700 and $1,000 will be
raised from this effort and a
definite figure will be given later
when all pledges are in. Please
riders, get your pledges in as
soon as possible to any 'person
whose name appears on the
check point sheets.
