Granton Friendly Neighbors entertain Lucan Sunshine Club By MRS. E. SUMMERS, GRANTON The Friendly Neighbors en- tertained the Lucan "Sunshine Club" and the "Busy Bodies" Mr. & Mrs. Austin Hobbs en- tertained their family for dinner on Sunday, May 2. Bride elect gets April showers! followed by the singing of the hymn "From Ocean Unto Ocean. Mrs. Barry Jeffery read a poem "Why God Made Mothers" and also different verses front the Bible pertaining to Mothers, and a reading "Hug Me First Mom" followed with prayer. The Topic "Haire You Ever Been Lonely" was given by Mrs. Snow, "Life Is Lonely" by Mrs. Archie Etherington, "Leadership Is Lonely" by Mrs. Roweliffe. The hymn "Faith of Our Fathers" followed with the of- fering and prayer by Mrs. Etherington. Mrs. Glen Stewart opened the business part of the meeting with two poems "Ilow Can I Know It's Spring and "Throw Out The Rubbish." Minutes, roll call, cards of thanks and treasurers report were given . It was decided to send the bale to the Indian Reserve at Southampton. It was decided to bringa tea towel at the June meeting for roll call. The prices for the Strawberry Supper were set at Adults $3.50 and children 12 and under $1.50. The meeting closed with the singing of "Breathe On Me Breath of God." Mrs. Stewart closed with prayer. By MRS. The visitors enjoyed the pool table and carpet ball There was not enough room to play shuf- fleboard as so many card tables had to be put up. Lunch was served by the executive. Don't forget the "Open House” on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. May 7 at the Scout Hall with a musical program, and lunch, Everyone is welcome. James Harding favored with accordion selections and a recitation by Mrs, E. Summers "Two little chicks" completed the program, the remainder of the afternoon was spent in the enjoyment of cards, shuffleboard and crokinole. They were celebrating Jon Passmore's first birthday. A good crowd attended the Allelulia Night Friday evening at Elimville, singing, skits, musical numbers and Snoopy the Dog comprised part of the program, At the church service on Sunday morning Arnold Cann and William Rohde were in- ducted to the Board of Stewards and Jack Stewart to the Trustee Board. The Family Day Service will be a combined service on Sunday May 9 at 11:15 a.m. There will be no Sunday School but the Medway Euchre Club The Medway Euchre Club met at the home of Mr, & Mrs. Elmer Summers April 26. Personals The Granton Scout & Cub leaders and members of the committee attended the Perth Annual Dinner for leaders and group committees from Perth County, held at Milverton on Wednesday, April 28th. Congratulations to Brenda Cook on winning third place at the Kiwanis Music Festival London for Folk songs with guitar accompaniment. Mr. & Mrs, Earle Middleton have returned home after being away for two weeks, when they accompanied their son Don to Toronto, Nine Mile Lake, Muskoka, and Timmins. Mrs. Donald Roloson president of the Granton branch of the WI attended the Women's Institute Officers Conference at Waterloo University from May 4 to May 6. Daffodil Tea A number of ladies from Granton attended the Daffodil Tea at the home of Mrs. Jaek Murdy of Lucan,•April 28, Between the proceeds from the draw on paintings donated by Mrs. Jean Jervis and the tea, a goodly sum was realized for the Canadian Cancer Society Research Fund. Church news The UCW Regional Rally of the London Conference held at Siloam Education Centre April 28 was well attended by Granton residents. The theme of the meeting was "How much do we care." Members of the panel were Mrs. Stuart Shier, Kirkton, Mrs. Arnold Fraser, Ilderton and Capt. Horace Roberts, Salvation Army House of Concord. Guest soloist was Miss Brenda Cook, Granton. At the United Church Rev. Mary McInally conducted the morning service. Her sermon was entitled "Defacing Holy Mrs. Alma Hess of Toronto visited with Mr, & Mrs.Gordson Schwalm, Mrs. Elizabeth Volland and Mrs. Daisy Ivey over the weekend, Mrs. Ruth McCloy and youngest daughter, Carrie, of Don Mills visited with Mr. Herb Stratton and family on the weekend and. also visited friends and relatives in the area, Mr, & Mrs. Art Coombs of Clinton, Mrs. Hilda McAdams of Zurich, Mrs. Beatrice Taylor of Varna, Mrs. Vera Johnston of Brucefield and Mrs. Marjorie Baird, Obie and Jay of Oshawa visited Mr, & Mrs. Gordon Sch- walm, Mrs. Elizabeth Volland and Mrs. Daisy Ivey during the past week. At their regular monthly Council meeting, Hay township accepted the sand cushion tender of James Adams, RR 2 Bluevale at $1.08 per cubic yard out of three tenders received. Willard, Cobourne at- tended his brother's funeral and visited for a few days with Mr. & Mrs. John Miller and family. Mr. Bruce Eaton is home from Bangladesh for a couple of weeks with his family. Mr. & Mrs. David Kemp and Christena, Clinton visited Friday evening with Mrs. Sam Norris and Mr, & Mrs. Bob Norris and family. Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Kemp visited on the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Ed Lawrence and family, Scarborough. Mr. & Mrs. Charles Ebel, Stratford visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Rob Templeman.
