Ca ivinettes and Cadets get awards
On Friday, April 30, a com-
bined banquet of Calvinette and
Cadet clubs of the Exeter
Christian Reformed ChTtrett was
held. A pot-luck supper was
enjoyed by both parents and club
members. Highlights of the
program included 'badges and
trophy presentation, displays,
speeches, followed by an auction
of baked goods, crafts, and potted
plants.
Winners of trophies for out-
standing Calvinettes in their
respective groups were: Joanne
De Ilann, Brenda Riddell,
Marian De Weerd and Annette
Branderhorst, Brenda Riddell
also won a trophy at the Rally
held on April 24 for her speech on
this year's theme "Reach
Another Person."
Winners of outstanding Cadet
awards were: Donald Boersma,
Times-Advocate, May 6, 1976 Page 7
Swiday May 9th
and crafts was enjoyed with Mr.
J. Riddell as as auctioneer.
Proceeds of the baked goods went
towards club funds. Proceeds of
the craft sale helped towards the
sponsorship of a 9-year-old girl
from Taiwan, a program which
the Calvinettes started in con-
nection with their theme for the
year "Reach Another Person."
Ken Van Wieren, Michael Len-
ling and Andrew De Boer. Ken
Van Wieren received a $15 award
for top salesman in the chocolate
bar drive. Mr. S. De .Boer
presented the Big p Drainage Co.
trophy for the outstanding cadet
of the year for the whole club to
Ken Van Wieren.

Morble Chiffon Cake
lemon juice. Sift flour over egg
mixture in 4 portions, folding
gently after each addition until
thoroughly combined. Fold in
meringue, Turn into an
ungreased 10-inch tube pan.
Bake in preheated 325 degree
oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until
cake springs back when
lightly touched,Invert and cool in
pan. When cool, loosen edges and
remove from pan. Split cooled
cake into 3 layers, dividing top 2
layers in half. Fill with pie filling,
raising top 2 layers at opposite
sides to give butterfly effect.
Dust with icing sugar.
The April W.M.C. meeting was
held at the home of Mrs. Mabel
Jeffery the laSt Thursday of the
month.
Mrs. Ruth McLaren presided
over the service and the hymn
"Christ Arose" was sung. Mrs.
Leila Finkbeiner played the
piano.
A solo was sung by Mrs. Susan
Cann, the title being "No other
song but that of Jesus."
The Roll Call was taken by
Mrs. Mary Blanchard and an-
swered by scripture verses on
Resurrection, There were 16
ladies present.
The Business was then tran-
sacted. It was decided to send
money to Rev, & Mrs. Larry
Ulseth of the West Indies. Other
gifts to workers were designated
also.
Mrs. Hilda Bodaly gave a
Missionary reading.
We sang the chorus Jesus Use
Me.
Mrs. Shirley Prouty gave the
message of the afternoon. Her
theme was ""The Lively Hope"
taken from the text I Peter
Chapter 1: 1-5.
WALNUT ROLL
The Walnut Roll is always a
spectacular dessert. The moist
airy sponge cake, with a nutty
texture and flavour, bakes in a
jelly roll pan. Lavishly fill with
whipped cream, roll up,dust with
icing sugar, and it's complete.

oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until
cake springs back when lightly
touched. Turn out immediately
on towel liberally dusted with
icing sugar. Remove wax paper
and any crisp edges. Roll up in
towel, starting at narrow edge.
Cool.
Whip cream until stiff. Blend in
icing sugar. Unroll jelly roll and
spread with whipped cream,
Using towel to guide the cake, re-
roll, Roll right onto serving plate
with seam side down. Dust top
with icing sugar if desired.
Makes 8 to 10 servings.

2 squares unsweetened chocolate
cup hot water
cup granulated sugar
13,, cups cake and pastry flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 4 cup granulated sugar
1 2 cup oil
6 egg yolks
3 4 cup water
2 teaspoons vanilla
6 egg whites
1 2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1,4 cup granulated sugar .
Preheat oven to 350 degree F.
Melt chocolate in a saucepan.
Add 1 1 cup hot water and '4 cup
sugar, stirring until dissolved,
Set aside to cool, Sift flour,
baking powder, salt and 3 4 cup
sugar together. Add oil, egg
yolks, 3 4 cup water and vanilla.
Beal until smooth. (1 2 minute
with mixer). Beat egg whites and
cream of tartar to form stiff but
moist peaks. Gradually beat in 3 4
cup sugar, beating until very stiff
and shiny, Thoroughly fold egg
yolk mixture into meringue. Add
chocolate mixture tot/3 of batter.
Turn into an ungreased 10-inch
tube pan, alternating white and
chocolate batters. Cut through
batter with a knife to zigzag
colour.
Bake in preheated 350 degree
oven for 55 to 60 minutes, r" until
cake springs back when oghtly
touched. Invert and cool in pan,

1 2 cup granulated sugar

Judy Wise, Susan Van Egmond,
Wesley Delve, Kathy Penfound,
Elizabeth Reid, Mary Gibson,
Jackie Norman, Brenda Harris,
Anita Hallam and Barbara
Gross. Karen McGregor, of
Brucefield, entertained with two
Scottish dances and played a
medleyof songs on the accordion.
Karen is a teacher of Scottish
dancing and two of her students,
Stella Wilson and Joe Anne
