Track and field set
If there is a lot of running
around in circles at the East
Williams Memorial Public School
these days, at least it's
calculated!
Fifteen boys have already
registered fora vigorous training
session which will continue at the
school during July and August.
During this time they will
periodically compete in various
track and field meets throughout
south-western Ontario.
Under the direction of East
Williams' teacher, Mr. G. Welsh-
man, and Strathroy's Our Lady
Immaculate teacher, Paul
Bouchard, the boys will train at
least three mornings per week
throughout the summer.
Provision has been made for the
use of the school and the town-
ship's recreational field,
The first regional meet will be
head as early as July 3rd in the
Bantam division. On July 10th
another meet is scheduled which
is sponsored by the Canadian
Legion, The boys will also
compete in the Western Ontario
Track and Field Association
meets.
Boys age 12 and 13, interested
in running, are still eligible to
register, and do not necessarily
have to be students at East
Williams, They will have to be
responsible, however, for their
own transportation to and from
training sessions.
A sign suddenly appeared
outside the Ailsa Craig United
Church last Wednesday evening
reading, "Welcome - Top's Club
Bake Sale and Rummage Sale
now being held downstairs",
Many took advantage of the in-
vitation and attended.
Tables of used toys and
clothing filled a good part of the
room which were quickly
surrounded by delighted
youngsters and mothers alike.
Most were extremely pleased
with the bargains they found
among the many articles which
were all in excellent condition,
Nor could many resist the
tempting array of home baked
goods,
After shopping, tea or juice was
available to be enjoyed while
fellowshipping together. Along
With the tea a wide selection of
nourishing and tasty cheeses and
other "Finger foods" was of-
fered.
The group successfully raised
funds for their projects and those
wise enough to accept the in-
vitation to attend, gained op-
portunity for excellent buys and
chatting with other community
members.
Students endeavouring to
run marathon
Anyone for a bit of jogging?
There's an open invitation for
anyone to join with fifty en-
thusiastic students at the East
Williams Memorial Public School
as they faithfully jog after
classes each Tuesday afternoon
through Nairn,
The newly formed Jogging
Chth under the direction of
teacher, Mr. G. Welshman, sets
out to complete 3.4 miles of
jogging each Tuesday. The
distance is carefully recorded for
each runner whose aim is to run a
total of twenty-six miles within
eight weeks and thus completi: a
marathon run.
Students who successfully
complete the 28 miles will be
awarded a jogging liar at the end
of the year.
