The monthly and annual
meeting of the Lucan Women's
Institute was held Wednesday
afternoon in the Masonic lower
hall with president Mrs. James
Lockyer in the chair.
During the business session the
members voted to pay expenses
for the 4-H Garden Club, ac-
cepted with thanks an invitation
to attend the meeting of Clan-
deboye Institute on May 11th, at
8:30 p.m. in St. James church hall
and the new president, Mrs.
Harold Cobleigh, vice-president
Mrs. Lillian Ashton and Branch
Director, Mrs, James Lockyer,
were appointed delegates to the
District Annual, May 13th at
Beachwood.
The new officers were installed
by District president Mrs. Martin
Watson as follows: president,
Mrs. Harold Cobleigh, vice-pres.
Mrs. Lillian Ashton; secretary,
Mrs. T. Emery, sr.; treasurer,
Mrs. Gordon Hotson; district
director, Mrs. James Lockyer,
alternate, Mrs. Cecil Robb;

revival centre
Sunday morning Rev.
Raymond Brewster spoke on
God's love for His people. For his
text he used Romans 5 verse 8.
Janie Robertson and James
Kestle sang and accompanied
themselves on various in-
struments. Mrs, Rick Thornton
sang a solo.
Sunday evening Rev. Brewster
spoke from John 2.
During the service a quartet of
musical instruments played two
special numbers. Joan Lockyer
sang as well.

The Lucan Senior Citizens Club
held their weekly meeting
Thursday afternoon with
President Muriel Cobleigh in the
chair for the brief business
meeting.
She welcomed back Mr. & Mrs.
Albert Armstrong after several
months absence because of
surgery and illness, wished
Emma Langford and Harold
Hodgins Happy Birthdays and
announced that $390.75 had been
realized from the grocery draw,
This money will be used to
subsidize a trip to the Huron
Country Playhouse in August to
see "Charlie's Aunt", on either
August 19 or 26.
Today, Thursday, the Lucan
group will visit with the
"Friendly Neighbours" in
Granton. Members are to meet at
the Centre at 1 p.m. for trans-
portation.
Mrs. Frank Hardy Sr. with her
committee, Mrs. Park, Mrs.
Revington, Mrs. Eldon Hodgson
and Mrs. Lloyd Elliott.
Convener's annual reports
were given and approved and
Mrs. Revington as convener for
the meeting gave the Motto
"Everything has its beauty but
not everyone sees it," She was
assisted by Mrs. Harold
Cobleigh, who led the group in an
alphabet game.
Mrs, Watson brought greetings
from District level and conducted
a question and answer period on
the Hand Book and other phases
of Institute work.
An invitation was read to the
official opening of the Granton
"Friendly Neighbours" Centre in
the Scout Hall May 7th,
Bowling. continues each
Tuesday afternoon. More
members are needed!
The Sunshine Group members
enjoyed euchre with Kathleen
Neil winning lady's high, Olive
Atkinson, ladies' lone, Fred
McIlhargey, men's high and
Harold Cobleigh, men's lone. Two
new members joined the
Macrame group with Viola
Carter instructing.
Muriel Cobleigh gave a
reading, Do Not Resent Growing
Old, Many Do Not Get the
Chance,"
Lunch was provided by Onnie
McFalls, Iva Hodgins and Harold
Egan.

April 24 a most enjoyable
evening was had by all at the
Maple Lodge School with 10
tables of euchre in play.
The following people were the
lucky winners: Ladies high,
Wendy Lee; ladies low, Mrs.
Heffernan; ladies lone hands,
Mrs. Harvey Ovens; men's high,
Lon Hodgins; men's low, Mrs.
Riddell; men's lone hands, Doug
Parsons.
Mrs. Fred Young and Mrs.
Arnold Cunningham attended the
euchre party at The Maple Lodge
School on Saturday evening.
June Donaldson, bride-elect of
May 22, was entertained on
Wednesday evening to a
miscellaneous shower given by
her sister Mrs. Joan Switzer, of
Shipka and sister-in-law Mrs.
Irene Donaldson on Wednesday
evening at the home of her
mother Mrs. Donaldson.
Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Carter
and Mr. & Mrs.Allan Hill enjoyed
this weekend in Wheeling West
Virginia and visited the Country
Music Hall and The Ogle Bay
mansion. They also enjoyed their
tour of Rex Humbard Cathedral
of Tomorrow in Akron, Ohio.
Mr. & Mrs. Fred Young ac-
companied by Mrs. Jean Young
attended a birthday dinner at
the home of Mr. & Mrs. Glen
Kennedy in honour of Darren
Kennedy's 15th birthday on April
26.
I had the pleasure of attending
the World War One Veterans
annual banquet at the Royal
Canadian Legion, Glencoe,
Friday April 23 along with our
Charter President Comrade
Percy Vahey. There were 18 WWI
vets in attendance and it was sure
great to listen as they reminisced
of those days between 1914-18 that
seem so long ago for us but are
still vivid memories to these
great 'old sweats'. I don't mind
telling you it was an experience I
will cherish for a long time,

recently? Let me assure you
there is a surprise in store for
those of you that haven't; the
planned renovations are
progressing and when completed
we will have a lounge of which
every member will be justly

Mrs. Duncan Scott opened the
April meeting of the Marian
Ritchie evening auxiliary of
Cromarty church with the call to
worship. There is a Green Hill

For the topic, Mrs. Eldon Allen
gave three short readings: what
is Easter?, Ten Commandments
of Happiness, and the story of the
moving of the Church of the
Virgin Mary in Czechoslovakia.
Jean Carey, assisted by Mrs.
John 'Pempleman, presented the
study book on the role played by
Canadian Christians in the
schools in Taiwan.
The meeting closed with, Jesus
keep me near the Cross, and the
Lord's Prayer. A silent auction of
baking, sewing, and plants which
followed the meeting realized
over thirty dollars for the group.

who said work parties were a
thing of the past - well - I've got
news for you, the members have
been turning out with great en-
thusiasm and it is a tip of our
Berets to you all for the
cooperation received,
Please keep the date of Wed-
nesday, May 12, open for this is
general meeting night at which
time nominations will be
reopened and you will be called
upon to elect those members you
wish to carry on with the affairs
of your Branch of the Legion for
the term 1976-77. Come on out and
vote as you wish but please vote!

The Women's Institute held
their monthly meeting April 21.
Mrs. Lloyd Roeszler,
representative of the Parks
Board, was present to learn the
wishes of the Institute concerning
the erection of a plaque and
entrance gates at the Community
Field.
The minutes of the 1975 Annual
Meeting were read, as were the
reports of the treasurer and of the
Standing Committees.
Roll Call was answered by
giving the surnames of one's
grandparents. Mrs, Bruce
Shapton reported on the board
meeting held in Hensall April 6,
Plans were made for hosting
the District Annual May 20, and
for securing tickets for at-
tendance at the Country
Playhouse, Grand Bend, during
the summer, Mrs. Aaron Wein
explained plans for collecting
Canada Packers' labels,
Mrs. Walter Weber conducted
the installation of officers for
1976-77. President, Mrs, Cliff

Official Board meeting in Zion
United Church Wednesday
evening. Rev. John Oestricher,
Clinton, Rev, Harley Moore,
Grand Bend and Rev. W, H.
Knisley, Goderich, discussed how
to promote growth in the church.
Flowers in the church for the
Sunday morning service were
from the funeral service of Mrs.
Sylvester Wuerth and Mr.
Squire I lerdman,
Dinner guests at the home of
Mr. & Mrs, Lloyd Hey, Friday
evening were Rev. & Mrs. M. E.
Reuher, Seaforth, and their
daughter Anne, recently returned
from a teaching mission in
,Japan.
Mr. William Smith is a patient
in University Hospital.
Alex Handerer suffered a
painful accident Saturday when
his bicycle collided with a parked
car.
Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Finkbeiner
flew to Saskatoon to attend the
wedding of their grandson Wayne,
Lambie,
Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Hey were in
Dorchester Sunday to visit Mr. &
Mrs. Tom Silverthorne and baby
