spinning wheel in order to give
the women some idea of how the
yarn is made from sheep's wool.
Among some of the other items
she brought for her demon-
stration was a shawl that she had
spun ,the wool for and made by
crocheting, The wool had come
from a sheep that had been shown
at the Exeter Fall Fair,
Along with the spinning wheel,
there are other operations one
must undertake to prepare the
wool. The wool has to be combed
to remove the knots, and spindled
to make the ply for the wheel, to
spin the yarn into the number of
plies required as well as to get the
proper "feel" of the wool said
Mrs. Van Essen,
Mrs. Van Essen leaves some of
the yarn she makes in a natural
state, and dyes the other, The
greatest satisfaction she gets is
'seeing the finished product, said
Mrs. Van Essen, who pointed out
the biggest quality needed for
spinning is co-ordination between
the hands and the feet.
Mrs. Delbridge thanked Mrs.
Van Essen just before lunch was
served. - The program, of which Mrs,
Van Essen was the highlight, was
