If not, their budget slash will not be as severe as anticipated after a meeting April the April Al April 12 meeting, council tentatively decided to give the pee committee $8,500 from the general rate. This left the committee over $9,000 short of their requested fund, according to i 1arold Green, council member and one of the two members of council on the recreation com- mittee. On the other side, Reeve Bob Shaven felt the committee would be just about at or at their requested budget picture. The discrpancy came from two different interpretations of the grant structure. Shaven maintained that money granted to the recreation com- mittee was actually given to the municipality, not the recreation committee. Assuming this, had council given the requested $12,680, coupled with the grant money, the recreation committee would have over $15,000. Green took the view that the money given in grants to Grand Bend for recreation would not have come had there never been a recreation committee and therefore council was not giving them any money at all since the $8,500 does not meet the salary expenses and book figures which council would be required to meet with or without the rec com- mitt ee.The bulk of the salaries go In paying lifeguards, The dispute reached a head April 12 and was culminated Monday night when Green reported to council that the rec committee, although unhappy with the general rate grant, would accept it. The financial picture brightened, however, when Sharen pointed out that the $8,500 stipend from council was just a beginning. That, with a $500 grant from Bosanquet Township, $2,700 in grant money in the recreation Committee bank account, and between $500 and $1,000 expected in grants puts the committee well within reach of their request. The $2,700 bank account is comprised of $2,500 in grant money and $200 interest, With this extra $200, it is possible taking the optimum amount of grant money available, that the recreation committee could finish up with $12,700 for 1976. That is $20 more then they requested. + + Even though the financial picture of the recreation com- mittee is better then expected, councillors Harold Green and Bill Baird, council representatives on the committee, are making in- nuendoes that they would like to step down from the committee. Both Green and Baird joined council in decrying the lack of accomplishments of the com- mittee, but Green and Baird had Quality and Value E: JJJJJJ IIIMMIIMIllifffIcIfilt1111(1M11,111111111411,1111111111111111111111111111111141 JJJJJJ 111111111111111111111111:: FOR THE VARMINT SHOOTER TROUT SEASON We Have a Big Selection of OPENS APRIL 24 Rifles and Accessories lllll lllll llllll 1111,11/11,1)1 llllll MI" See us for a complete line of rods, reels and fishing equipment F. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, lllll , lllll tieftflillf llllllllll MI111111111111.0 different reasons. Green felt the committee was underfinaneed, and council's desire to have them raise their own money was unrealistic considering the amount of time required. If council wanted the com- mittee to raise funds, they should get nine retired people, "he added. "I'm sure as hell losing interest and others are too" said Baird, who feels the job and role of the committee should be more clearly defined. Reeve Bob Shaven agreed with Baird, seeing a clearer definition of the role as a step forward. Then he turned around and threw it back in the laps of the recreation committee to come up with the definition and the plans to appease council who is becoming increasingly hostile towards the committee and what they all see as their inaction.
