Henson people and events EASTER CANTATA — A choir of 22 voices performed an Easter Cantata at Hensall United Church April 12. The hour long program was entitled "No Greater Love" and was narrated by Rev, Don Beck. T-A photos by Yvonne Romoniuk Church service at Varna DDP Irene Harnack presented at lodge Noble Grand Mrs. Bertha MacGregor presided at the meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge, Wednesday evening assisted by the Vice Grand Mrs. Dorothy Parker. District Deputy President Mrs. Irene Harnack, Goderich of Huron District No. 23 made her Queensway happenings Mrs. Adeline Taylor of the Queensway Nursing Home celebrated her birthday Sunday at the home of her daughter Mrs. Verna Gibbings, Summerhill with 30 of her family, grandchildren and relatives. She received many beautiful gifts. Leslie Mitchell visited with his mother Mrs. Louise Mitchell. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Paisley on returning from Florida visited with Mrs. Vera Lammie, Chester & Illa Dunn also visited Vera. Bell Reid visited with Clara Featherston. The Presbyterian Ladies with Mrs. Rochus Faber in charge enteetained the residents on Monday playing bingo. Mrs. Malcolm Dougall favoured with piano music. The Kinettes visited the Home and presented Easter Lilies. Mrs. Jack Hodgson was hostess for UCW April meeting. Mrs. George Lee opened with a poem followed by Mrs. Wilbert Lewis reading the scripture. Mrs. Lee gave a reading on "Consider the Tree" and Mrs. Hodgson a reading "What was finished" and Mrs. Lewis, "The Wondrous Cross." Mrs. Lee took charge of the business and the roll call was answered by 12 members. Group III ladies served lunch and a social time followed. Personals Me. & Mrs, Douglas Lewis hosted a going away party Saturday night for Mr. & Mrs, James Styles who are leaving shortly for Thunder Bay. They were presented with a gift of luggage. Mr. & Mrs. Cyril Morley arrived home Thursday after spending several months in Florida. Mr. & Mrs. Ambrose Koricina and family were Sunday visitors with Mr, & Mrs. Joe Koricina. The ladies Guild of St, Mary's church, Brinsley had their regular Meeting at the home of Mrs, Murray Rowe with the president Mrs. Wilfred Dixon taking charge. Hostesses were Mrs, Ralph Rowe and Mrs. Murray Rowe. Mrs & Mrs. Roy Schenk and Kathleen Morley were Sunday official visit, and was presented to the Noble Grand, officers and members by Jr. P.N.G. Mrs. Margaret Consitt. It was announced the District Church service will be held at Varna church, May 2, at 10:15 a.m. Members to meet at the Township Hall at 9:45 a.m. to parade to the church. An invitation was received to a Dessert Euchre at Huronic Lodge, Clinton April 30 at 1:30 p.m. and also to the Legion Hall Goderich, May 12, at 1;30 p.m. sponsored by Goderich Rebekah Lddge. Mrs. Harnack addressed the Lodge congratulating all responsible for the renovations to the lodge hail and gave an in- teresting address on the Three Linksyriendship,Love and, Truth and expressed her sympathy in the loss of a valued member. Gilbert of Exeter was convicted Tuesday, April 14, by Justice of the Peace, D. W. Wedlake, of failing to file an income tax form for 1974 by March 3, 1976 and fined $25, or five days in jail with 30 days to pay. Gilbert was also convicted of failing to file an income tax form upon demand by March 4, 1976, and fined another $25 or five days in jail with 30 days to pay. Murray N. Bell of Hensel] was convicted of failing to file an income tax form for 1974 by March 15, 1976 and fined $25 or five days in jail with 30 days to pay, and failing to file an income tax form for 1974 upon demand by March 16, 1976 and fined another $25 or five days in jail with 30 days to pay. Anne C. Baynham of Exeter was convicted of speeding 40 m.p.h. in a 30 mile-an-hour zone and was fined $13 or one day with 15 days to pay. Mr. & Mrs. Carl Payne visited Choir presents Easter program Easter is a season that inspires music. It was therefore no great surprise to learn that Hensall united Church was to render a cantata "No Greater Love" in the Easter season. That performance took place on Monday evening and the only pity is that more people were not out to hear it, Not that the church was empty by an means, but there were empty seats and each one signifed an hour of beautiful music missed. "No Greater Love" tells in music and by narration the story of Jesus' Temptation, the Sermon on the Mount, highlights on His ministry. Palm Sunday, the Last Supper, His agony in the Garden, the Crucifixion and Resurrection. Narrator for this inspiring message was Rev. Don Beck. Soprano soloists were Miss Mary Goodwin and Mrs. Janis Bisback. Alto soloists were Mrs. Belva Fuss. Tenor soloists were Messers I)on Travers, Wayne Payne and Ron Mock. and Bass soloist was Mr. Doug Mock. A duet was also sung by Belva Fuss and Wayne Payne. Mrs. John Turkheim trained the choir and gave leadership at the organ. with Mr. -& Mrs. Ross Berdan of Union on Sunday. Jp.an and John Young of Lakeside, Phyllis Duncan of Stratford, and Mary Goodwin of town visited with Mrs. Pearl Pussmore on the weekend. The Minstrel Show put on by the Huronia Choir in Exeter last week was enjoyed by many of the residents of Hensall. Some members of the choir are citizens of Hensall, Visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Schwalm, Mrs, Elizabeth V011and and Mrs. Daisy Ivey last week were Mrs. Genevieve Windover, Mrs, Bona Clark, Dana Bozzato, Star Jesney and Miss Sandra McCurdy from Town, Visitors from out of town included Mr. & Mrs, Desmond Ivey of Sarnia, Mr. & Mrs, Lewis Taylor of Varna and Mrs. Vera Johnston and Jack of Brucefield, Mrs. Elizabeth Volland enjoyed a visit with Mr. & Mrs. Tony Et ue of London who took her to visit in Varna with Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Taylor. On the way to Varna, they picked up Mrs. Vera Johnston and all enjoyed their visit together. Mr. Gordon Schwalm has been visiting for the past two weeks with Mr. &Mrs. Robert French and son Roy in Rousseau. Miss Hazel Macdonald, Goderich, retired missionary of Taiwan and Ethiopia, Miss Flora Macdonald, Goderich, Secretary of Life Membership of London and Hamilton Synodical and Mrs. Michael Schwalm, Literature Secretary of the Synodical, and Mrs. Elizabeth Faber, Kippen, Literature Secretary of Huron Presbytery attended the annual London-Hamilton Synodical in Chippawa Presbyterian Church, Niagara Falls Tuesday and Wednesday. They also took in „a tour of the Falls which were still piled high with chunks of ice flowing from Lake Erie. Only beds of beautiful crocuses were in bloom at the time. Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Holland, Gwen & Michael, Clinton, were recent visitors with Mr. & Mrs. James. Sangster and Brad, Mr. & Mrs. William Simpson of Brimingham, Michigan, were week-end visitors with Mrs. F,G. Bonthron. Mrs. Ralph Turner who has been a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter returned to her home last week. Rev. W.D. Jarvis, conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church Sunday and continued his studies on the Lord's Prayer "Lead Us Not Into Temptation" Anniversary service will be held on May 16th at 11:00 Guest Minister Rev. Ken Innes of Brussels. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Shepherd of Willowdale visited this week with the latter's mother Mrs. Ada Smillie. 4-H The meetings of two Hensall 4- H Clubs were held at the United Church on Tuesday evening. The roll call was "an idea for your achievement day presentation " The Leaders demonstrated the French Knot and Achievement Day plans were discussed. United church At Hensall United Church this Sunday, the Rev. Don Beck continued his series of services on "What is a virtue". Love is a gift from God; without His love we cannot give love to others, Mrs. John Turkheim assisted at the organ and the choir sang the anthem, "Ride on, King Jesus." On Thursday evening, a Maundy Thursday communion Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. and next Sunday, Sunt'ise Service and Breakfast will be conducted by the Youth Group. Goderich spoke briefly bringing greetings and best wishes to the officers and members. Bingo euchre was played at the close and refreshments served during the social hour.
