Skating Club was held in the
Zurich Arena Sunday bringing
skating to a close for another
successful year. The judges were

test day, April 3. This ends the
season for the club with a suc-
cessful year. Those passing tests

Adeline Taylor who will celebrate
her birthday April 12.
The church service was con-
ducted by Rev. Don Forrest of the
Pentecostal Church, Exeter
accompanied by his wife at the
piano.
Ladies of the Presbyterian
Church namely, Mrs. Rochus
Faber, Mrs. Mac Dougall, Mrs.
Bert Thompson, Mrs. Percy
Campbell, Mrs. Clarence
Volland, Mrs. Ruby Hoggarth and
Mrs. Harvey Hyde entertained
the residents with Bingo games
on Monday. Mrs. Mac Dougall
favoured with piano music, which
was very much enjoyed.

Tanzania topic
for church ladies
Unit IV of Hensall UCW, met
Thursday afternoon with Mrs.
James McAllister presiding. She
opened the meeting by reading a
few lines concerning Lent.
Twenty-two members answered
the roll call. Mrs. L. Purdy gave
the devotional based on the
Biblical story of Easter and Mrs,
Laird Mickle played two piano
numbers, "Bless this House" and
"How great Thou art".
The topic was taken by Mrs. R,
Peck who spoke on Tanzania,
emphasizing the progress the
country has made since
becoming independent.
Mrs. T. Sherritt gave the
financial report and Mrs. Harry
Caldwell reminded us of the
Barbeque supper, May 26, and
the church choir cantata, April
12. The meeting ended with the
singing, of "Rejoice the Lord is
King" followed by prayer, Lunch
was served by Mrs. Inez McEwen
and her committee,
United Church
The service at Hensall United
Church for passion Sunday was
conducted by Rev. Don Beck with
Mrs. John Turkheim at the
organ. The choir sang the an-
them, "Praise the Lord, Ye
Heavens, Adore Him" and the
sermon was No. 5 in the series,
"What is a virtue?" Hope.
Hope is the Christian's
privilege as it is linked to trust,
faith and truth.
April 12, the choir will present
the Easter Cantata, "No Greater
Love" in the Church.
The general meeting of the
Hensall United. Church Women
was held April 5 in the Fellowship
Hall. Dr, S. J. Alkemade was the
guest speaker and took members
on a tour around Melbourne,
Australia. The film was a family
affair, having been made by Dr.
McBride and infant son Michael
Ronald in Goderich.
Mr. & Mrs. Grant Gowanlock,
Lambeth, visited on Saturday
with the latter's parents Mr. &
Mrs. Joe Ferguson and attended
the funeral of Mrs, Gowanlock's
uncle the late Mr. William
Parsons.
Mr. & Mrs. Alf Ross returned
home from a pleasant holiday in
Florida.
Mr. & Mrs. Howard Ferguson
of Thamesford visited Saturday
with the former's parents Mr. &
Mrs. Joe Ferguson and attended
the funeral of the former's uncle
the late Mr. William Parsons.
Rev. W. D. Jarvis conducted
service in Carmel Presbyterian
Church on Sunday, speaking on
the text "Forgive as we forgive",
The anniversary service will be
held on Sunday May 16 when the
Rev. Ken Innes of Brussels will
be the guest speaker. The
Couple's Club will meet April 28
in Carmel Church, Hensall.
Mr. & Mrs. Ron Passmore,
Michael, Mark and Debra visited
with the latter's mother, Mrs.
Pearl Passmore, at the weekend.

Gordon Schwalm, Mrs. Elizabeth
Volland and Mrs. Daisy Ivey last
week were Mrs. Mary Funk of

returned to her home after

The tour included homes with
beautiful gardens, old and
modern buildings, factories,
sports areas, beaches, etc., and
showed such fairy-tale places as
spending a week with he
brother-in-law and sister Mr. &
Mrs. Fred Parsons in London.
Mrs. Garnet Allan returned to
her home after spending several
days with her son-in-law and
daughter Mr. & Mrs. Ron
London Bridge and Arthur's Seat.
The film pointed out many
similarities between Canada and
Australia, Each is a large
country with a small population
for its area, each has varied
vegetation and many modern
buildings and machinery, etc,
The Devotional was conducted
by Elva Forrest and brought out
the Easter theme. Easter hymns
were sung and Mrs. Forrest read
a story, "Obad and the Colt".
This is an imaginary story of a
humble Jewish family living at
the time of Jesus' ministry.
Mrs. J. McAllister, leader of
Unit 4, chaired the program
opening with two poems, one by
Gwyn Whilsmith, "This Island of
Me" and "Glory". Linda Elder
•
gave two instrumentals, a
medley of tunes and "Let it be
me". Hilda Payne conducted an
action song.
During the business session,
conducted by the president, Mrs,
Shirley McAllister, prices were
set for the Beef Bar-B-Q and for
"Luncheon is Served" to be
held in the Fall. An illuminating
letter from Angola was read by
Mrs. Erratt.
Youth Group
The Hensall United Church
Youth group met Sunday evening
and completed plans for the
Sunrise Service and breakfast,
Easter Sunday morning. Posters
were also finished. Members will
be informed of the next meeting.
