Park crew an early 2-0 lead when
he scored a pair of goals in the

Jeff Shipley narrowed the gap
for Lucan at 4:49 of the second

Another hockey season has
ended. It has been a long
strenuous season after 45 games,
straining practices, travelling
many miles and spending many
hours at the rink. It has been a
very gratifying season for me as
coach — to see 16 boys almost
accomplish the unbelievable.
Many fans didn't think we were
for real in our playoffs — but we
kept coming back to reach the
' semi-finals. Perhaps we made
believers out of many. Yes, we
lost in the semifinals, but it was
no disgrace. Maybe we didn't
play up to our potential in the last
Series, but we were beaten by a
better team. We all wish Listowel
good luck in the finals.
The season has been so
gratifying because we had such a
great effort from everyone. Only
four players returned from last
year's championship team. With
12 new players we seemed to
mould together as a unit very
early in the season. Sure we had
our ups and downs — sometimes
we expected too much — but
when, the chips were down we
were there to meet the challenge.
If our desire and spirit had been a
bit better maybe we could have
been in the finals instead of
Listowel.
The season would not be
complete without thanks going to
many people. Thanks to my wife,
a hockey widow for a second
year, and to the rest of my family
for not spending as much time at
home as maybe I should. Thanks
to Wayne Pearce and Gerry
Parsons for a great job and great
co-operation all year. Thanks to
the parents who brought your
sons to the games and practices
and for driving to games. Thanks
to EMITA for equipment and ice
time; to the management of
Exeter and Huron Park Arenas
for your fine co-operation; to the
Legion for the new sweaters; to
Ross Haugh and Fred Youngs for
the great press coverage; to
Audrey Dooley who came to our
aid in St. Mary's; to all the loyal
parents and fans for your great
support throughout the year,
Special thanks to the members of
the A's who without you the whole
season would not have been
possible. I hope we have been
able to learn something this year.
You 'have something to be proud
of in your performance this year
— because you lost is not the end

giving 10 percent as you did al
year for

me and I'm confident
you will come out winners.

Listowel won their series three
games to none.
Listowel carried the pace of the
game, outshooting the A's 18-8
and 30-5 in the first two periods.
The A's had the shot advantage

Doug Hoffman put in a spec-
tacular performance in the nets,
as he turned away 61 of the 65
shots he faced. He played the
entire game for the A's.
After a scoreless first period,
Listowel opened up for three
goals in the.second frame, one to
Dan Annett and a pair to Jeff
Borden.
The A's dominated the third
period, taking the play to
Listowel but were unable to put
the puck past Rod Sacks in the
Listowel nets. He has continually
foiled the A's throughout this
series.
The closest the A's came to
beating him was a break-away
shot by Doug Brooks that rattled
off the post.
"It is no disgrace to lose to a
team with Listowel's ability"
Ron Bogart, coach of the A's said
after the game. "Wait until next
year is all we can do now."
+
Bogart complied the year end
statistics for his team, which
show a well balanced club with
plenty of scoring punch and
defensive ability.
Over the season, the A's played
45 games, winning 27, losing 15
and tieing 3.
They scored 195 goals, while
allowing 132, for a plus 63, well
above average.
Hoffman and Steve Wells
handled the majority of the
goaltending, with Hoffman in net
for 78.5 periods and Wells for 55.5
periods. Murray Heywood was
between the posts for one period.
The top five scorers for the A's
accounted for 147 goals, or 75
percent of their total scoring
output. They are:
goals assists points

A's eliminated with 4 0 loss to Listowel
in the third, brought Lucan within
tying distance but George Tomes
put the game away for Huron
Park when he converted a pass
from Jones for Huron Park's fifth
goal.
Phillip Clark's two goal first
period was all that Lucan needed
in their 3-1 victory on Sunday.
Alastair Craig from Shipley and
Jamie Hodgins added the in-
surance for Lucan early in the
second.
Huron park „sot .,on. the

game in the third period.
BANTAM
The Bantam's dropped both
their games this weekend, losing
3-1 to Lucan Saturday and
blowing two leads Sunday when
they went down 4-3 to Dorchester.
After a scoreless first frame
Ron Glen from Ken McManus
opened the scoring for Lucan
Saturday when they combined at
5:14 of the second. McManus
came back again when with an
unassisted goal at 9:33 of the
period, a goal that'proved to be
the winner.
Don Stuckless set up Rob
Funston for the only goal of the
game for Huron Park at 6:04 of
the third but McManus's second
goal into the empty net cemented
the win for Lucan.
Sunday, Huron Park held a 1-0
and 2-1 lead over Dorchester, but
couldn't maintain them as they
lost the game 4-3 on Scott Moser's
lone third period goal.
Jim Baird opened the scoring
with a goal for Huron Park, only
to have it tied by Frank Schreurs
three minutes later. Underhill
put Huron Park ahead again
before the end of the period, but
two goals by Dorchester, both to
Dan Sutton, with less then a
minute left in the first period and
early in the second put Dor-
chester out in front for the first
time in the game.
Rob Funston brought Huron
Park even again with a goal in
the second period at 3;07 but
Moser's goal in the third, with
fess then 30 seconds to play
finished off the scoring for the
Dorchester crew and gave them
their victory margin.
PEEWEE
Steve O'Neil's four goal per-
formance was the key to Huron
Park's Pee Wee's 5-2 win over
Lucan Saturday. ,
Rich Lather opened the scoring
for Huron Park early in the first
period, before Brad DeGraw tied
it'f'or Lucan, sending the teams
into the second at one apiece.'
O'Neil started his scoring burst
at the 20 second mark of the
second when he converted passes
from Mike Gallagher and Lather.
He came back seven seconds
later to put Huron Park two up
when the same three combined.
Lather continued to feed O'Neil
in the third frame, as he set up
both of his goals at the 53 second
mark and at 7:20.
Duenk from Shawn
Porter had the only reply for
Lucan.
