Church news
At the United Church, Rev.
Mary Mclnally conducted the
morning worship which was a
joint service between the two
pastoral charges, Wesley and
Granton. The sermon was the
fourth in the lenton series and
entitled "The crowd was there".
The crowd was crying Crucify
Him and Pilate, to appease them,
turned Jesus over to them to be
crucified, said Rev. Mclnally.
Bean luncheon
Following the service a Bean
Luncheon was served in the
church basement, this was a
project of both churches and was
in aid of World relief and
Development. There was an
excellent attendance and a
goodly sum was realized for the
project.
Owing to a joint Holy Com-
munion service at Saintsbury
Anglican Church, there was no
service at St. Thomas Church on
Sunday.

Elimville ladies to meet at Spire

ELIMVILLE
The March meeting of the
Elimville UCW was held March
24 with Mrs. Wm. Allen and Mrs.
Freeman Horne in charge. Mrs.
Horne opened the meeting with a
poem and Mrs. Horace Delbridge
read the scripture.
A reading, "Easter Behind the
Iron Curtain" was given by Mrs.
Philip Hern. Mrs. Clayburn sang
"The Cross was His". Mrs, Allen
read a story "It happened on
Friday".
Mrs. Philip Johns conducted
business. Several thank you
cards were read. It was an-
nounced Alleluia Night will be
April 23.
Several ladies were to put in
quilts on Monday to be quilted
this week. Easter baskets will be
sent to shut-ins.
More baby books are to be
purchased for new mothers and a
donation given to the Manse
Fund.
April meeting to be held at the
Country Spire and all ladies of the
congregation are invited.
A short, `World's Day of Prayer
service was held following the
meeting.
Church Service
A special church service was
held Sunday at the Thames Road
Elimville churches. The young
people from St. Paul's residence,
Waterloo University were in
charge of the service.
They had many new hymns
which they introduced to the
congregation.

The fifth meeting of Elimville
II was held Monday at Mrs. Judy
Johns.
For discussion members talked
about the "historical outline of
embroidery" and they reviewed
colour and design for the 'Free
Choice' article,
For demonstration the leaders
showed the members how to do
the satin stitch and the sheaf
filling stitch. The meeting was
closed with the girls practising
the stitches.
Euchre
An euchre party was • held
Monday night at the Elimville
Hall. There were seven tables set
up. The winners are as follows:

held their annual variety concert
on Friday evening in the Orange
Hall. The program consisted of a
solo by Susie Van Der Spek,

Heather, Kirkton, Reading by
Jim Gunton, Woodham Quar-
tette. Several skits were put on by
a number of people .
The Explorer girls and their
leaders, Mrs. Lloyd Jaques and
Mrs. Vic Janson took a trip to
London on Wednesday where
they toured St. Peter's Cathedral,
the London library and the
Centennial Museum,

Jeffrey. Lana spent the last two
weeks with the McCurdy family

The fourth meeting of the
Granton 4-H Club "Tangled
Threads", was held March 22 at
the home of Mrs. Michael O'Shea,
Plans for the book covers were
discussed, it was decided that
each girl would take a piece of
material for the picture on her
book cover.
Leaders Mrs. Joe French and
Mrs. O'Shea reminded the '
members that their record books
had to be handed in by April 23.
Following a discussion on the
skit topic for Achievement Day,
which is "Let's begin to em-
broider", the girls were in-
structed on the uses of the twisted
chain stitch, by Mrs. O'Shea, who
also suggested some examples
for the free choice article.
Then the girls were shown how
to do the counching stitch, on
their sample pattern, by Mrs.
French.
