The villagers of Mt. Carmel
would like to express a fond
farewell to Basil and Marlene
Glavin and their daughter Kelly,
The family recently moved from
the villag e to a farm owned by
Basil's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Pat
Glavin, The farm is located on
the Mt. Carmel road about four
miles east of our village.
The residence of Mr. & Mrs.
Wilfrid Hogan always seems to
be a busy one, and this past
weekend was no exception.
Among their visitors was Mr. &
Mrs, Hogan's daughter Rita, her
husband Jerry Hartman and the
Hartmaas' two sons, Gary and
Brian.
Theresa Dietrich, daughter of
Mr. & Mrs, Charles Dietrich, was
able to take some time from the
nursing course she is taking in
Woodstock and visited her
parents here in the village this
past Sunday.
Besides studying madly for the
exams that my educators insist
are necessary, I was also able to
join my parents in welcoming
several guests to our household
on this past Saturday. Among the
visitors was my grandmother,
Mrs. Lilian Finch and my aunt,
Marge Shepherd.
Over the last week, the Mt.
Carmel hockey team has con-
tinued a rampage ,of victory,
bringing the possibility of an
overall championship closer and
closer. On Tuesday, February 24,
the team shut out the Malcolm-
Welding team, defeating them by
a score of 6-0, On Thursday,
February 26, as the series with
the Malcolm-Welding team
continued, Mt. Carmel'was again
victorious, RA time winning by a
score of 6-2. The teams are
playing a series based on points,
with two points being alloted for a
win, one point for a tie. The first
team to attain eight points ad-
vances to the final play-off round.

Edward Jacob Stire and his
wife, Ida Matilda (Becker)
celebrated their 60th wedding
anniversary with a family
gathering last Sunday afternoon.
"The weather was quite dif-
ferent than it is today", recalled
Mr. Stire. "We drove to the
church in a horse and cutter.
There was a lot of snow, but it
was a beautiful sunny day".
The couple were married in
the Lutheran parsonage in Dash-
wood on March 1, 1916,
"We went to Niagara Falls for
our honeymoon" reminisced
Stire, "It was wonderful. We took
the boat and went right un-
derneath the falls".
Following their honeymooh the
couple took up farming on the
14th concession in Hay town-
ship. They remained on the
farm until 1954 when they moved
into Dashwood, where Mr. Stire
still resides.
The couple have three
children: one son, Harold, who
also is a resident of Dashwood,
and two daughters, Alice (Mrs,
Gerd Muller) and Elda (Mrs,
John Barr), both of London, and
eight grandchildren.,
The couple celebrated their
anniversary with a family
gathering at Craigholme Nursing
Home in Ailsa Craig, where Mrs,
Stire has been a resident since
September 1975.
The Stires received several
plants and bouquets of spring
flowers, cards and other
remembrances. Many friends
also called at the home to extend
congratulations and good' wishes
to the couple on their 60th an-
niversary.
Senseless damage done in
Ailsa Craig
Saturday morning found at
least three of Ailsa Craig's stop
signs knocked over by a witless
driver. On one occasion the
driver had obviously got himself
stuck in the mud during his ad-
venture.
Deep rut marks showed'
evidence of a car having been
driven diagonally across the field
behind the former Ailsa Craig
Public School at the same time
leaving behind much main-
tenance work to be done.
Tire marks also showed that a
car had been recklessly driven
across the large lawn area in
front of Craigholme Nursing
Home onto McAndrew Street.
