Jets fight back from deficit,

The championship game
against Hayfield was a see-saw
affair that saw Bayfield jump
into the lead early in the first
period on a pair of goals by
Darin Telfors,
Ford and Courtney connected
for Grand Bend to tie the score
before the end of the period,
Andrew Bullen put the Bay-
field crew one up in the second
and Telford rounded out his
hat trick to make the score 4.2,
setting the stage for Huron
Park's comeback.
It was up to the line of Rick
Fifield, Randy Roth and Doug
Galloway to put the Jets back
in contention as they all scored
in that order. Fifield's goal
came at 12:47, Roth's at 13:13
and Galloway at 14:36,
All three of the goals came in
one shift.
Jim Blake ended the Cana-
dians victory chances in the
overtime period when he poked
one behind goalie Bob Budden.
Budden faced 47 shots in the
game while Sonny Pennington
in the Jets net had to handle 32.
The Jets passed the 1,000
minute mark ,in penalties last
week, and now have 1,051
minutes on the season. They
have the worst record against
power play goals, having allow-

The Grand Bend Atoms swept
all three of their games in the
Hayfield Atom Hockey Tourna-
ment held Saturday and Sunday
to take the "A" division honors.
Grand Bend wallopped the
squad fom Clinton in their first
games when they picked up a
17.0 victory.
Dean Courtney led Grand
Bend with six goals, Doug Ship-
ley picked up four, with hat
tricks going 'to Robbie Mennen,
Randy Ford and Richard Brown
scoring a single.
Terry Brown, who won the
most valuable player award for
the Grand Bend team, picked,
up 'the shut-out.
The game against Huron Park
was a little closer, as Doug
Shipley, with a pair of goals
and, an assist led Grand Bend
40 a 5-2 win.

ing in the first period but Mike
Salvona came back to tie It up

second and Rick Fifield and Bill

Dean Symons of the Durham
Huskies set a new scoring
record Sunday when he popped
in his 52nd goal against Lon-
don. t'ifield's record of 51 was
set last season.
Pennington currently is in
fifth place in the goaltending
statistics with a 4.27 goals
against average.

Preclous Blood Separate
School in Exeter went down to
defeat in a one game basketball
playoff against St. Michael's
Saturday to determine which
school would carry county honors
to the Regina.Mundy tournament
to be held later this month in
London.
Precious Blood, who has a total
school enrolljnent of 65 pupils,
lost 44-28 to St. Michael's. The
game was played between teams
comprised of boys from grades
seven and eight. There is one
class of seven and eight at
Precious Blood and over 200
students in the same class group
at St. Michael's.
Precious Blood had been
practicing all week at the gyms in
SHDHS where the game was
played but it was to no avail, as
St. Michaels overcame a four
point lead in the second half to
roll-- on and win the game,
Precious Blook has no gym.
Doug Brooks led Precious
Blood with 19 points. ;,Chris
Mittleholtz picked up five and Joe
Vinck and Ron Coolman had two
apiece.

The Exeter A's, the local
Bantam team, are the only
minor hockey club from Exeter
left in playoff contention.
The A's, who just eliminated
St. Marys in three straight
games, meet Sandwich West in
the next round of playoffs.
Sandwich West is near Windsor,
The A's have had to contend
with a two week layoff, which
is worrying coach Ron Bogart,
He feels that this may slow
his team down in the next series
and to combat this he has had
them practicing every other
night at the Zurich arena, the
A's new home,
