Seniors hear about
Lions club trip
Ten tables of euchre made for
an enjoyable afternoon on
Thursday for members of the
Lucan Senior Citizens' Club. The
Busy Buddies joined with the
Sunshine Group in the absence, of
the craft instructor.
Prize winners were: lady's
high, Kathleen Neil; lady's lone,
Margaret Carter; men's high,
Harold Cobleigh, men's lone,
Myrna O'Neil, playing a man's
card.
Lunch was provided by.
Kathleen Neil, Vina Emery and
Joe Carter. Violet Hardy read
"John Gillpen's Ride" from a
very old, third, reader.
During the business meeting,
chaired by president Muriel
Cobleigh, it was announced that
18 bowlers enjoyed that activity
on Tuesday and there is room
for more. A report will be given
regarding the Lions' Club trip for
Seniors at the meeting this af-
ternoon, Thursday, You are in-
to vited attend.
Lucan OPP investigate
two hit and run accidents
Two new members of the
Committee of Stewards, of Lucan
United Church, Jim Hearn and
Randy Paul were installed at the
service on Sunday morning.
Betty Bates a third member is in
the hospital and will be installed
at a later date.
Rev. Ewart Madden told the
congregation that a Committee of
Stewards is a very important
group in a church as it hits at the
very heart of the church, We
believe in God and must present
our whole selves to Him.
The work of the Committee of
Stewards is not just a "collection
agency" but is a group of
members who try to educate us in
what Christianity is all about as
far as stewardship of our whole
selves is concerned, and we must
learn to give to the Lord more
generously of ourselves and of
our gifts.
Next Saturday from 9:30 till
4;30 members were invited to
attend a Faith-At-Work event in
First Westminster UC, London.
Everyone is invited to attend the
postponed "Compassion of
Canada" concert on Sunday, the
22nd at 2:30 in Lucan Public
School. Offering for Guatemala
relief.
Learning stitchers
hold first meet
Lucan No. 3 4-H Homemaking
club held their first meeting for
the current project a "Touch of
Stitchery" on Saturday afternoon
February 14 at the home of the
assistant leader Mrs. Gerald
Straatman.
There were 11 members and
their mothers present. After
distributing the members
pamphlets and a discussion on
the color wheel and choosing
colors for their "Learning Stit-
ches" articles the members had
an opportunity to purchase. the

will be February 21st at 1:30 p.m.
at the home of the leader Mrs.
Don O'Neil.
Comrade Doug. McDonald,
First vice president, Dominion
Command, Royal Canadian
Legion and membership com-
mittee chairman, reports that the
total membership in all classes
was 456,706 as of October 16, 1975
compared to 425,584 at the same
time the previous year. By the
end of 1975 the total was expected
to reach 470,000. The target for
1976, the Legion's Golden an-
niversary is 500,000.
The figures indicate that the
Legion is still increasing its
membership in the ordinary
membership classification (8,000
more than the previous year.)
There are still a lot of eligible
members out there Comrades,
how about inviting them to join
the greatest organization ever
created — The Royal Canadian
Legion,
Last Year's Confirmation class
will have an evening of play-
reading on Sunday February 29
at 8 p.m. at the home of Jean &
Glenn Newton, Clandeboye, with
the intention of presenting a
Lenten or Easter play for the
congregations.
Toe Committee of Stewards will
meet the first Tuesday in March.
Lucan Clandeboye Explorers
held an expedition on Japan.
February 9 at Lucan United
Church with 15 members present.
Explorer Jacqui Green was in
charge of opening and closing
ceremonies. Explorer Tami
McRoberts and Counsellor Mrs,
Dan O'Neil presented a dialogue
on Japan. Next expedition will be
Social activities and church
services were cancelled in this
community last weekend due to
the storm. While the roadmen
struggled to keep the roads
passable,the weatherman did his
best to make them impassable.
By Monday evening things were
under control.
Saturday evening D. Morneau
of RR 1 Lucan was taken to
hospital by Haskett ambulance of
Lucan following a fall. Mr.
Wayne Carroll followed with his
farm tractor until the ambulance
reached highway No. 4.
Ian Carroll suffered severe
pain and was taken to South
Huron Hospital. The doctor
reported it was a muscle spasm.
He and his mother Mrs. Ron
Carroll spent the weekend with
her aunt and uncle Mr. & Mrs.
Carf Cann, Exeter, returning
home Monday morning.

The Lucan UCW program
committee met on Tuesday af-
ternoon to finalize plans for the
Learning for Lent series to be
held at the church.
This is an Interdenominational,
learning project for all and
commences Thursday, March 4
with registration at 9:15 a.m.
Each Thursday, thereafter, until
April 8, meetings will commence
at 9:30 running through to 11:30
omitting March 25th, during the
winter school break.
Interest groups will include
quilting, crocheting, Chrismons
and gift wrapping, 3 and 2
sessions, respectively, and music
for enjoyment and participation.

were guests at the wedding of

couple will honeymoon in

During the week of February 8-
14 the officers at Lucan Detach-
ment worked a total of 463 hours
and patrolled 4250 miles in all
phases of police work.
There were 49 general oc-
currences investigated in the
period.
Three liquor seizures were
made with charges laid in each
instance.
In traffic activities 21 charges
were laid against motorists under
the Highway Traffic Act and a
further 25 warnings issued.
Motor Vehicle collisions again
were well above last year's
figures.
Ten investigations were con-
ducted with injuries to 2 persons
and damage estimated at
$3836.00. To date in 1976 there
have been 70 collisions reported.
Cancer society
to hold 'ride'
The Executive of the Lucan-
Biddulph Branch of the Canadian
Cancer Society met at the home
of the president, Mr. Len Maslen,
on Thursday evening, February
12th to discuss plans for the 1976
Campaign.
"A Great Family Ride" for
Cancer from Lucan Lions Park to
the Gra nton Memorial was
discussed and arrangements
made for an education-campaign
meeting for all residents in the
area, on Wednesday, March 31st,
when the guest speaker will be
Dr. John A. McCredie, of London.
Child care will be provided and
a registration fee charged to
cover materials and utilities. For
further information you may call
227-4712.
In 1975 there had been 31
reported.
There were 2 "fail to remain"
collisions this week. The first
occurred on the Medway School
Parking Lot on Wednesday,
February 11, 1976 when a car
owned by Ray Foran, RR 5
London, was struck.
The second occurred on Thur-
sday, February 12, 1976, at the
Royal Canadian Legion Parking
Lot, Lucan, and involved a car
owned by Jack Holland, Lucan.
In both instances the hit and
run car fled the scene without
notifying with the owner or the
police.
