We have just received the report of
the Registrer General of Ontario' for
1872. The late date in sending it out is
owing to the fact that it has to be laid '
before Parliament before being present -
t. ad to the public. It shows that the law
requiring registration of births, mer-
riages and deaths has been more gen-
erally complied with. than in previous
years, though many still neglect to
conform to its requirements. Were
people more fully persuaded of the im-
portant consequences inyolved
themselves aud their descendauts, they
would not be so ready to neglect what
can be se easily done. The importaece
and benefit of a correct system of regis-
tration is shownly the frequent amili-
cations for certificates of births, mar -
rine' and deaths. Some amendments
to the law are required, but they have
been deferred in prospect of a general
act being passed to apply to the whole
Dominion.
The uumber of registrations during
the year we% as follows :-
Berths . . 23,367
Marrieges 10,450
'Deaths 10,74h
The death of 14 persone who had
reached the age of 100 years and up
wards is announced, in one instance the
deceased being returned &I 123 years
old.
The Oatinty of Huron furnishes the
following returns :-
Births . . 1192
.... • • •337-
. Deaths 501
A careful analysis of the muses of
death is given. From this it appears
that a large proportion of the deaths hit
this county were caused by typhoid
feeer, which our readers may remember
was very prevalent ite thee slimmer of
1872. 'The proportion of deaths' from
this diseaae war 1 to 26. .
As far aa can be ascertained the re-
turns for 1873 will trnuch glare full

the fsct a "here summary of the law was

st Though the elections are over _there
are certaia matters connected with them
Which should not be lost sight tif. It
notoriunsly the feet tkitt Conservatives
have &leaps art eye to their own in-
terests while Reformers are too often
sleek and careless in looking after theirs.
Ia tha late contest in the South Riding
it was found:that largo numbers of yotes
h vim been 'added to the lists which have
no right tu be there, wed the nmits of
Refortnen who have voted fur year* ie
their respective -townships have been
left off. In view of past abuses which
-.shave come to light, aad in prospect of
"general election for Ontario in 1875
when the voters lists for this year will
be used, it is of the arnest importance
that proper riding and township Reform
saoociations sheuld ba ergenized and
a
kept up, to remetly these things and to
prevent their recurrence in future. We
do not mean. that anything should be
done on our part savouring in the least
degree ef illegality, bat Reformers have
had reason to learn rime very severe
lessens in the past of the care, and we
weight add, enscrupulousness of the
other party in seeing that the number
of voters on their side is swelled to the
utmost. These organizetions would
pct as vieilance associations to see that
the assemment rolls Ana voters lists
were not tampered with, end that only
those names appeared on them whieh
had a right to be there. Many Con-
servatives are very carefut te see that
their son's names are put on the asseara
enent rolls along with their own so as to
give them a rote. If this is 'eerie and
right, Reformera should do the same, if
it is not, anch prectises should not be
allowed.
We would unte Reformers to organize
usociations and keep them up con-
!' et intly in every municipality. The de.
tett of the Tory party at the elections
win only put them on their muscle, and
judging by our port experience of their
tactics they will leave no stone unturn-
ed to try end gain the ascendancy. If
Reformers only show a small -share of
the rtgilance exhibited hy thetn, they
will be able to sustain their party in
power her many years to come, and thus
enable them to carriout -those glerious
prineiples whIch we alt working for.

A bill is at present before the Parlia-
ment of Ontario to which we desire to
direct attention. It is one which pro-
poses togive to five Flomompathic phy-
sicians,complete and:full University pow-
ers, to examine and grant degrees to such
students of homoeopathy as may appear
before them, without their being re-
quired to take a regular college course
of study. Some years ago the hom-
oeopathists and eclectics had separate
boards of examination and were *em-
powered to grant certificates, not de-
grees, to such students es had taken a
college course but desired to practice
aocording to the principles of these
school/. These boards were afterwards
incorporated with the regular medical
ceuncil, but the homeopaths not
satisfied because they had not a con-
trolling influence at the board with-
drew, and now ask to have five of their
number veiled with full University
powers. Were'their requested granted
the county would soon be fleoded with
ignorant practitioners. Entirely apar t
front the question of the merits of horn..
reopathy the effect of such a pleasure
would be to lower and degrade the
medied profession.
The idea is prepeaterous and we hope
will not for &tam -lent be entertained by
the Legislature.

The London Free Press is speaking cif
the result of the elections says :-
"The defeat our party has met with
on this occasion is not calculated to ex-
alt one's ideas of the aptitude* of 'the
whole people to act in a judicial cape -
city."
The Free Press is evidently in * bad
way. Because its party is beaten, and
justly so, at tho polls. we auppese it
would sweep away -responoible govern-
ment and substitute -well, an oligarchy,
with the Editor of the Free Pree as ab.

aboye opinion, we think the result of
the electinns, viewed in the light of the

the people are emipently qualified ha act
in a judicial capacity. • •
