Brian Horrell made it 2-0 when he converted a pass from Randy Parsons, before Paul Pooley scored an unassisted effort to make it 3-0. Pooley's goal came while both teams played short- handed. Two power play goals in the third, one by Pooley and one to Parsons completed the scoring. Lucan took nine of the sixteen penalties called in the game. Juvenile Exeter squeaked out a 2-1 win over Lambeth this week, in Exeter. Tom Hayter opened the scoring for Exeter and Fred Campbell scored the eventual game win- ner. The rough game saw Exeter take eight of the thirteen minors called. Rec hockey Brian Hudgins' four goal outburst against the McLean- Passmore team led the Ottawas to a 7-4 victory in Recreation League Hockey on Thursday night. Hodgins' four goals, along with a pair by Jim Rolph and a single for Bill Consitt accounted for the Ottawas scoring. Larry Skinner with two and Ron Dougall and Dennis Passmore replied for McLean- Passmore. Crediton put up a much better show then they did last week when they were bombed out of the arena in their two games. They lost 3-1 to Algoma Tire. Ed Kerslake, Tony MacDonald and Paul Kerslake scored for Algoma Tire. B. Galloway replied for Crediton. A four goal third period, led by Chris Daniels with two, helped the Guess Whos to a 7-2 win over Les Pines. The game was played in Belmont, The Hawks travelled to Belmont on a bus with no heat, and arrived toollatetfor alwarm- up. Belmont had been prac- ticing for about 20 minutes when the Hawks stepped on the ice and used the first period as a warmup period. The lack of preparation hurt them, as Belmont stormed into a 3-0 lead in the first frame. Rick Landon put the Hawks one behind when he converted passes from Barry Landon and Chuck Peterson, Two more goals, less the 30 seconds apart left the Hawks with a three goal deficit at the end of the first period. Ken Pinder and Brian Taylor set up John Van Gerwen for the Hawks first goal of the game, to put them within striking distance. Randy Foster scored the eventual game winner for Belmont, and Matt Muller scored his only goal of the evening unassisted to send the two teams into the dressing room with Belmont ahead 4-2. The teams split goals in the third frame, with Pirider scoring for the Hawks and Paul Logan scoring for Belmont. This weekend is very important to the Hawks. Morninersteeg feels that they can put together three wins in a row, against Seaforth in Exeter, Friday, Tavistock on Sunday in Exeter and Mitchell in Mitchell, Tuesday night. The three wins would put them back into third place where they started before injuries and player vacations started them on their losing streak. The Hawks currently reside in sixth spot, well ahead of seventh place Port Stanley with 22 points. A see -saw battle between Exeter and Seaforth in Atom division hockey saw Exeter drop a four goal lead and have to score the final goal to earn a 6-6 tie in exhibition hockey in Seaforth on Sunday night. Exeter's Scott Brintnell scored the first of his two goals of the evening when he converted a pass from John Kernick for the only goal of the opening frame. Kernick opened the scoring in the second period with an unassisted goal and Dave Hayter followed less than half a minute later. Both goals came while Exeter was playing shorthanded with Ted Oke off serving a tripping call. Seaforth got on the scoreboard when Jim Campbell popped in their first marker of the game. They were swamped again though, as Exeter came back with two quick goals, one by Chris Van Gerwen and the other going to Brintnell for his second of the game. With Exeter leading 5-1, Seaforth suddenly found its legs and they proceeded to score five goals in a row, three before the end of the second period. John Dale popped in two goals, less than ten seconds apart to narrow the gap and Jerry Wright added to the total to bring the home team within one goal before the end of the period. Seaforth tied the game on a goal by Marty Bedard, who put them ahead for the first time in the game just over a minute later. Brent Atthill salvaged the tie for Exeter when he dumped in a pass from Doug Scott while they played with a man advantage. . House League Elaine's Coffee Shop came close to wiping out a three goal lead but the Avco team managed to hold on for a slim 4-3 victory in House League Action this past week. Avco went ahead 2-0 on an unassisted goal by Don .Beaver and a marker from Kevin Glasgow before Elaine's got back in the game when Brian Denomme scored the first of his two goals. Avco increased their lead later in the game when Beaver scored again, followed by Brad Scott with the eventual game winner.' Both goals were unassisted. Denomme put the second one in for Elaine's, and assisted on Steve Francis' marker, but time ran out before they could tie the game. Nine minor penalties were handed out, five of them going to Avco, Pee Wee A&B The Pee Wee A and 13 teams, with no regularly scheduled action this week, played off against one another in an exhibition game that saw the A's walk away with a 7-0 shutout win, Ed Willis opened the scoring and led the way as he scored twice and assisted on two others. His was the. only goal of the period. Peter Tuckey, Rick Lindenfield and Dave Shaw expanded the lead in the second and in the third it was Willis, Dave and Shaw again to complete Ow scoring, Three penalties, two to the A's, were called in the game. In St. Marys the Bantams played with merely six players, including the goalie, Brenden McDonald, Steve Harg, Mark Bodenham and Bruce McNall all scored two for St. Marys with singles going to Mike Prout, Bruce Smith, Kevin Hartwick, Keith Hartwick and Keith Haycock. The B's were in no better shape when they met their A coun- terparts, still playing with only six players and having to borrow five so they could at least change players. Brian Mercer was scoring from all over the place, as he popped in six goals and assisted on another four. Dave Bogart scored four, Steve Pearce had two, and singles went to Mark Parsons and Dan Bell. Wayne Parsons scored the only goal for the B'swhen Dave Atthill and Doug Fletcher set him up. All three were on loan from the A team. Bantam "A" A first period goal by Lucan's Ron Glenn spoiled the A's shutout in a close checking game that saw Exeter win 5-1. Doug Brooks from Dave Bogart opened the scoring for Exeter, followed by Brian i Mercer's un- .assisted power play goal. Glenn scored when he deflected a slapshot from the point by Stewart Eddy into the net just past the five minute mark. The period ended 2-1. A scoreless second period saw most of the play between the blue lines, as Lucan had three shots on net while Exeter could manage only one. Preston Dearing added the insurance goal early in the third when he slapped in a pass from Larry Dawson. Mercer and Brooks both scored their second of the game giving the A's their four goal margin. Logan had nine minor penalties, and one misconduct to Glenn compared to five for the A's. Midget Brad Taylor's first period goal was all that Exeter needed to win A shaky start by the Exeter Mohawks in the first period saw the Shipka Colonials score four goals to sink the Exeter Mohawks 5.1 in South Huron Hockey League action on Tuesday night. Shipka took less than a minute to score, combining on a three way passing play that sent Dave Turner and Pete Gill in on a two on one break. Turner passed to Gill who let a shot go from thirty feet out rattling it off the goal post and over the line. A Less than a minute later, a blast from the point by Bud Gardiner put Shipka two 'Up. Peter Gill scored number three for the Colonials before Turner took a pass from Gardiner and slid it under a sprawling Rob Grant of make it 4-0. Turner's goal was a power play effort, with Howard Churchill off for interference. Stan Lovie finished the scoring for Shipka with an unassisted effort that came with the Mohawks playing shorthanded again. EXETER ARENA Friday, Jan. 23 ° 8:30 p.m. Seaforth vs Exeter Hawks The Mohawks broke John llayter's shutout in the third, period when Churchill set up Murray Glanville for the only goal of the game for the Mohawks.
