There was an exchange of
pulpits Sunday when Rev, Clyde
Westhaver, B.A. of the Ailsa
Craig, Brinsley and Carlisle
Church was the speaker in Lucan
and Clandeboye Churches, and
Rev. Ewart Madden spoke in the
aforementioned churches.
Mr. Westhaver spoke on "Men
Ought to Pray and Never Lose
Heart" saying that sermons on
prayers are increasingly rare
with emphasis being placed more
on social action topics. Corporate
and individual prayers have
become mechanical and lifeless.
He said in order to get over this
lifelessness one should go over
the day with God once a day.Mr.
Westhaver concluded with the
question "Are we willing to take

The Lucan Library has
received a generous gift of sixty
five books, donated by the friends
of Esther, Carey and Steven
Eizenga and Faron Sovereign,
who were the victims of a tragic
accident in September 1975.
In selecting the books, the
library staff have tried to em-
phasize the studies and interests
of children and young people so
that the books will be of long-
term value. A few beautifully
illustrated books, such as
Canada, A Year Of The Land,
produced by the National Film ,
Board; The Group of Seven, by
Peter Mellen, and the two
volumes of Birds of the Eastern
Forest, by Lansdowne and
Livingstone, are also included.
The books will be on display in
the Lucan Library during the
week of January 19 before being
integrated into the general book
collector, The library is open
from 3-5 and 7 -0 p.m. on Monday,
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday-,
and from 1 - 5 p.m. on Saturday.
DALEY'S WEEKLY COMMENTS
Pensions increase
President Muriel Cobleigh
opened the first 1976 meeting of
the Lucan Senior Citizens Club
Thursday with a very ap-
propriate New Years poem.
She announced that the
Memorial book is now up-to-date,
with 14 names entered and
mentioned the stamps for the
Bible Society to be brought in at
the next meeting. 1976 mem-
bership fees are due and may be
paid to treasurer Alex Young.
Bowling is becoming more
popular and will continue each
second Tuesday at 2 p.m. The
next bowling day is January 27.
Here is a message of interest
for all veterans just received
from the Ministry of Veterans
Affairs —
"Increases in disability pen-
sions, widows and orphans
pensions, war veterans
allowances, civilian war
allowances, and other benefits to
take effect January 1, 1976, were
announced by the Ministry of
Veterans Affairs, the Honourable
Daniel J. MacDonald.
The increases in benefits ad-
ministered by the Canadian
Pension Commission (disability
pensions, widows and orphans
pensions, exceptional incapacity
allowances, attendance
allowances and clothing
allowances) reflect the 11.3
percent increase in the consumer
price index since the last ad-
justment a year ago.
Increases in allowances
payable under the War Veterans
Allowance Act and certain
civilian allowances payable
under the Civilian War Pensions
and Allowances Act, which are
adjusted quarterly, reflect the 2.9

A couple of months or so ago, I bought a car for cash,
which was a private sale. This car has been nothing but
a headache ever since. It's once again in the garage,
and my mechanic now tells me, that the mileage has
been altered.
I've managed to get hold of the former owner, but he
strongly denies this. I feel that I have been taken . . .
what can I do?
Unless you can obtain a service receipt from some place
where this car had work done, and it showed a higher
mileage than when you bought it, then there's nothing that
you can do, to our knowledge.
When you buy an automobile from a registered dealer, he
is regulated by the Motor Vehicles Dealers Act, which means,
among other things, that anyone on his staff altering an
odometer could cost him his dealer's licence.
This also applies to registered mechanics, as well as car
leasing firms, but when you buy privately, you "Take Your
Chances!"
Too bad you didn't have your mechanic check it out
BEFORE you parted with the cash.

I bought my husband a pair of shoes for Christmas
from a large department store. The shoes they sold me
were the wrong size, and as a result he got a blister on
hi; heel which burst causing blood poisoning.
He had to get penicillin shots, but he could have lost
his leg, or his life. We think we should sue this company,
what do you think?
Well, madam, we are neither in the shoe or sue business. To
find out if you have a valid case, you will have to consult a
- competent lawyer. In the meantime "IMPACT" has contacted
this store, not located in this area, we might add. This stare
claims that they know nothing at all about this matter, as, ap-
parently, you have never bothered to visit, write or phone
them, so they are completely "in the dark."
They are very willing to discuss this problem with you per-
sonally, and naturally wish to examine the shoes in question.
This all sounds perfectly logical to us, but, of course, the
final decision is up to you and your husband.

Recently we purchased a Doberman Pinscher pup and
sent her to a kennel which was supposed to specialize in
all phases of dog training. They charged us $200 cash in
advance, for an obedience training course.
Well, after a month we picked her up, and she's a lit-
tle better than before, but certainly nothing near being
well trained. We feel that his $200 was a complete
waste of money and have complained% this trainer to
no avail.
"IMPACT" has investigated this kennel and its owner quite
thoroughly, and believe us, his record as a dog breeder and
trainer is second to none.
He claims that pups are similar to children, some are very
bright while others are extremely slow to learn,
Your's, unfortunately, was one of the latter, and the trainer
produced a paper signed by your husband, that there was no
guarantee, and also that he was not responsible for the
animal while in his care. His fee is justified, he states, because
of the time spent with your dog,
