Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Currie of
Dorchester spent the weekend
with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Otto
Walker and accompanied them
when they celebrated their 47th
wedding anniversary at the home
of Mr. & Mrs. Bob Hulley of
Winthrop, Sunday afternoon.
Also present were Mr. & Mrs.
Larry Gardiner and family,
Cromarty, Mr. & Mrs. Jack
McGhee and family, London,
Linda and Joanne Currie, Bob
Brugger, Brian Bearss, and
Maria Bernadete.
The annual meeting of
Cromarty Presbyterian Church
has been set for Sunday, January
25. A pot luck supper will precede
the meeting.
Mr. & Mrs. Bob Gardiner and
Robbie have returned from a trip
to California.
Weekend visitors with Mr. &
Mrs. Robert Laing were Mr. &

hostess for the January UCW
meeting. Kathleen Morley took
as the opening thought 'January,
with its ice and snow.'
A Woman's Prayer was read by
Mrs. Harvey Steeper and also a
reading, Praise Him. Scripture
waS'read by Mrs. George Prest.
Mrs. Marjorie Steeper gave the
world events of these days and
'Our Wish' was given by Mrs.
George Prest.
Mrs. Bill Fenton conducted the
business. Roll call was answered
by 9 members. Reading "Our
UCW of 1975" was given by Mrs.
Marjorie Steeper, Lunch was
served by the hostess.
Euchre
At the progressive euchre
party held in the Community
Centre Friday night, prizes were
awarded for ladies' high to Mrs.
Guthrie Stokes, ladies' lone
hands, Mrs. Harold Guilfoyle,
and ladies' low, Mrs. Wilbert
Lewis.
Men's high went to George
Dixon, men's lone hands, John
Levine and men's low, Terry
Lewis.
Lucky number winner was
Jack Trevithick. Nine tables of
cards were played and lunch
followed.

Greenway UCW
discuss projects

The United Church Women
held their January meeting at the
home of Lillian Ulens on Wed-
nesday afternoon.
Despite inclement weather
there was a good attendance.
Devotions for the New Year were
led by Mrs. Edna Woodburn and
Mrs. Ross Brown. Mrs. Harold
Brophey presented a welL
prepared article on Citizenship.
Refreshments were served by
Mrs. Jim Eagleson and Mrs.
Carman Woodburn.
The president, Mrs. Jacob
Lagerwerf led in a discussion of
many projects suggested for the
new year. These will be con-
sidered further at a finance
meeting to be held on Friday
afternoon.
Bible study
The Adult Bible study meeting
was held in the United Church
last Tuesday evening, when the
minister, Rev. Harley Moore led
in a study and discussion of the
meaning of the temptations of
Jesus. Willing workers
The Willing Workers of the
United Church held their January
meeting, Friday evening, at the
home of Mr. & Mrs. Jan
Lagerwer I'.
The funeral service for the late
Mrs. William Hicks, Chateau
Gardens, Parkhill, was held on
Monday afternoon from the Box
Funeral Home, with interment in
the Grand Bend Cemetery.
Mrs. Hicks was a valued
member of the United Church
here, before she and her husband
moved to Parkhill a few years
ago.
Her contribution to the musical
life of the congregation will long
be cherished, having been a
member of the choir and of a
ladies quartette for many years.
Arkona were Sunday dinner
guests with Mr. & Mrs. Harvey
Morley.
Rev. Ewart Madden of Lucan
conducted the service Sunday in
the United Church, Brinsley.

Mr. & Mrs, Gordon Slaght,
Joanne and Jeff spent two weeks
in Florida. There were cloudy
days, some cool weather and one
day of tropical downpour. They
visited an aunt and uncle at Cape
Coral, the Kennedy Space Centre,
Disney World.
At the Space Centre they saw
the satellite, a Canadian-
American project, soon to be
launched to bring communication
to Canada's north. They spent
two days at Disney World.
Christmas Day the 400,000 car
parking lot there was filled,
The Slaghts noticed signs of
economic stress. Some places
were closed; some con-
dominiums, half-finished, stood
abandoned. The children were
delighted to find that so wide an
expanse of water as the Atlantic
Ocean was warm to wade in.
Tuesday evening members of
the Youth Group accompanied
Rev. & Mrs. Bruce Pierce and
Harry Schroeder to the United
Church Resource Centre at
Clinton. Books, tapes and films
were reviewed, with a view to
their use in future programs.
Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Haist and
family have returned from a
three week visit to Florida. They
saw Disney World, Busch and
Cypress Gardens, the Keys; they
visited Mr. Haist's aunt in St.
Petersburg. The weather was
cool, with frost evident several
mornings. The return trip was
made difficult by traffic
congestion.
UCW
Thursday, evening the UCW of
Zion United Church held their
January meeting in the Sunday
School rooms. Mrs. Lorne
Preszcator was in charge of
devotions, and was assisted by
Nola Faist, Mrs. Marguerite
Finkbeiner and Mrs. Cliff Ken-
ney.
The theme was "Take Time,"
There were readings, and a skit
by Mrs, Kenney and Mrs. Fink-
beiner. Listeners were reminded
of the words. of Benjamin
Franklin: "Dost thou love life?
Then do not squander time, for
that is the stuff that life is made
of "
Rev. Bruce Pierce conducted
the installation of officers, and
announced the coming of Jean
Kellerman Sunday, March 14,

Mrs. A. Browning just returned
to their home in Winnipeg after
spending a year in Australia.

called on his cousins Mr. & Mrs.
Stan Preszcator on Tuesday,
of committees read their annual
reports. The missionary
allocation was set at $500, half of
which is to be divided among
Paul Webb, Jean Kellerman,
Anne Reuber, Mr. & Mrs. M,
Irwin and the Swan Lake
Reserve.

Mrs. Emmery Fahrner
received word of the death of her
cousin, Myrtle Brown. Miss
Brown was brought from
California for burial Tuesday in
Kitchener where she served for
many years as secretary of Zion
United Church,
Howard Lightfoot is a patient
at Victoria Hospital, Mrs. Myrtle
Baker has been admitted to South
Huron Hospital,
Sharon School, a landmark for
several generations, was burned
down Saturday, Cliff Grasdahl
has bought the property and is
clearing it for building.
In the Sunday morning service
at Zion United Church Rev.
Bruce Pierce spoke on the work
of the Holy Spirit. "The Holy
Spirit" he declared, "is in the
spirit and soul x-ray business.
Satan is a defeated foe, and all
who follow him are losers,"
