Dashwood celebration

The family of Mr. & Mrs.
Valentine Becker celebrated
Christmas and New Years with a
family dinner party at Dashwood
Community Centre, January 2.
Mr, & Mrs. Becker were ex-
tremely happy and thankful as it
was the first occasion in several
years that the entire family of 52
members including 24 grand-
children were able to be together
for dinner and an evening of
games and fellowship.
At the start of the evening the
family shared in a special prayer
thanking God for good health and
the opportunity to see and talk to
one another and express concern
and love for one another.
Members of the family were
present from Sudbury, Kit-
chener, London, Peterborough,
Grand Bend, Zurich, Kippen,
Dashwood and vicinity.

have returned home following a
vacation in Florida.
Elgin Kipfer had the misfor-
tune to slip while getting out of
his truck fracturing his right leg.
It never rains but what it pours,
as Brian Kipfer, who had been
looking after the garage for his
dad broke his right arm while
snowmobile racing at Norwich,
Sunday.
Mr. & Mrs, Earl Guenther were
in Drayton over the Christmas
weekend attending the funeral of
the late John Taylor, brother-in-
law of Mrs". Guenther who passed
away -December 24. The funeral
was held from the McCauley
funeral home, Drayton, with
interment in Victoria cemetery,
Drayton.

The January meeting of the
United Church Women was held
Monday evening with 27 ladies
present. The program convener,
Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne, was in
charge of the meeting. Mrs. Glen
Lamport gave a reading "The
Old Year and The New Year."
Mrs. Lee Webber called on
Rev. Barry Robinson who was in
charge of the Installation Ser-
vice.
Mrs, Lloyd Ballantyne opened
the worship service with the
theme "Faith and Creation."
followed with a reading "Faith"
by Mrs. Ballantyne.
The scripture lesson was read
by Mrs. Ross Hodgert.
Mrs. Lorne Ballantyne
received the offering with Mrs.
Lloyd Ballantyne giving the
offertory prayer.
The topic, "Mary Ellen Goes
To China", was given by Mrs.
Lloyd Ballantyne with Mrs. Ross
Hodgert, reading "Why Study
China Now", "Bare Facts About
China" by Mrs. Lamport;
Readings "Mao" and "Chinese
Reminded of their Goals" from
the London Free Press was read
by Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne.

with Mary Ellen with Mrs.
Hodgert and Mrs. Lorne
Ballantyne taking part.
The new president Mrs. Glen
Stewart then took charge of the

meeting with ,a New Year's

Garageman dies
in city hospital
Blighton A. Ferg passed away
in University Hospital, London,
December 30, in his 68th year.
He is survived by his wife, the
former Alice Baillie; a daughter,
Mrs. Charles (Bernice) Eckel,
Zurich, two grandchildren, and a
brother Kenneth, Petrolia. -One
son predeceased him in 1939.
Mr. Ferg was widely known
having operated the Supertest
Service Station here. He was a
member of the IOOF' lodge in
Monkton and a service was held
Thursday evening by the
members.
Funeral service was conducted
January 2 by Rev. Don Beck from
the Bonthron Funeral Chapel
with interment in Alma Centre
Cemetery; Atwood.

the coming year
The Women's Missionary
Society of Carmel Presbyterian
Church met in the school-room of
the church Monday with Mrs.
Harvey Hyde, president, opening
the meeting with a meditation
entitled "Facing the New Year",
Scripture lesson was read by
Mrs. Rochus Faber. Mrs. Hyde
outlined the new study on
"Taiwan and Japan".
The Presbyterial will be held in
Seaforth January 14. The World's
Day of Prayer will be held in St,
Paul's Anglican Church March 5.
Mrs. Clarence Volland will be in
charge of the February meeting.
Zion Lutheran Church choir,
Dashwood, entertained the
residents before Christmas. At
the Christmas party Santa Claus
arrived and gave out gifts. Mrs,
Eric Luther played the piano and
sane, Christmas carols.
