Christmas Dinner
By JULIE FORD
Grade 7
Usborne Central
The cook woke up and she stared
up at her clock in fright,
She, found she had slept too late
in the night
She bustled around and put on
her dress,
She looked in the mirror and
found her hair was a mess.
Down the stairs she ran,
Thinking about the Christmas
dinner she still had to plan.
As she ran to the ice box and took
out a turkey which weighed
fifteen pounds
She was amost knocked over by
one of her hounds.
She found all ingredients and
started to prepare,
But as she was doing this,
Down fell her hair?
She stopped her. job she was
partly done
But just long enough to pin up her
bun.
Then back to her work as quick
as a flash,
All of the sudden she heard a big
crash.
The cook look down at the floor
and oh did she howl,
What she found on the floor was
the fifteen pound fowl.
An hour later when the guests had
got there,
She picked up her turkey and
strai • htens her hair.
One of 3 e people asked the cook,
"1:). 4 you have any trouble,
aring this lunch?"
" .0, *id the cook, "it was like

Onee:of Santa's
Reindeer
By LYNNE JACKSON
J.A.D. McCurdy
Rudolph was one of Santa's
reindeer. He was ashamed of one
thing, his nose. His nose was like
a big shiny and bright cherry.
The other reindeer used to
always say "Look at the therry
nosed deer! isn't he a funny
sight?" Well the elves didn't
think so.
They were very fond of him,
because he came when the elves
needed light, and then they see
perfectly. Santa Claus didn't
know anything about Rudolph,
because he had come later than
the other reindeer, and Santa
was always in his workshop.
Well at last Christmas came.
Santa called all the reindeer to
his feet and said "I am going to
pick a leader to lead the way
from house to house. '9!
Then suddenly Santa saw a
little reindeer with a big bright
nose, and asked one of his elfs
who it was. The little elf gladly
said "Oh, that is Rudolph. His'
nose is so bright it shines in the
darkness of the night 'and is as
tame as a baby puppy."
After the elf said that Santa
decided to see how Rudolph
would do so he picked him. After
that Christmas Eve the other
reindeer only called Rudolph -
Rudolph. Now Rudolph isn't so
ashamed of his nose any more.

Have all you boys and girls
been good this year. I'm sure you
have, and if you haven't —. well
you still have a couple of days to
make it up. In fact next time I
see Santa Claus, I'll tell him to
make a trip to your house. When
I was very little I wanted so
much to meet Santa Claus that I
stayed up all night. I waited and
waited, suddenly there was a
thump! It was Santa Claus. He
filled the stockings up and put
presents on the tree, and he
spotted me at the corner of his
eyes. He picked me up and set
me on his knee! Ha! Ha! Ho!
Ho! "What are you doing up so
late?" he said. I didn't reply, I
was astonished. He picked up a
story and started reading it.
After that I don't know what
happened. What do you think
happened! I fell asleep!

One day a boy was waiting for
Christmas to come. He wished
that it would freeze and snow
like anything, He went uptown
and was looking in the store
windows and he thought to
him a present; not even a crumb
himself that no one ever gave
to eat.
At last it was Christmas Eve
and he thought that maybe Santa
would give him something if he
gave him something, He only had
a little bit of milk and four
cookies so he ran out of bed an
put it on a plate and went ba
