Granton minister inducted, w
groups hold special events
By MRS. E. SUMMERS
GRANTON
At the United Church Rev.
Elwood Morden conducted the
morning worship Sunday.
Preceding, the service the
congregation joined in a carol
sing led by the Senior and Junior
Choirs. The third candle for
Advent signifying "Joy" was lit
by Mrs. Nelson Tate,
The text for Rev. Morden's
sermon was taken from Matt. 1-
21. "And thou shalt call His name
Jesus and he entitled the
message "The Spirit of Christ-
mas", Jesus whose name means
love, came to show us how to live,
but we live how we choose.
Goodwill towards men, means
love which enables us to un-
derstand and care about the lives
of the poor and lonely. Peace on
Earth means happiness and
brotherhood and removes fears,
suspicion add extreme
selfishness. Let us once again
prepare our hearts and minds to
receive The Spirit of Christmas
said Rev. Morden.
At St. Thomas Anglican Church
Rev. Mary Mills was in charge of
the service of morning prayer
and based her sermon on the
continuing series on the Lord's
Prayer, the phrase "Forgive us
our debts as we forgive our
debtors" was described es the
second petition of the Model
Prayer, our debts were our
wrong doings. Through Faith,
Prayer and Justice to God we ask
Him to forgive us our debts as we
forgive others said Rev. Mills.
In a story to the children Rev.
Mills explained the significance
of each candle in the Advent
Wreath and then called on Paul
Acres to light the third candle
denoting "Joy", Next Sunday,
December 19, the Sunday School
pupils are presenting the
Christmas Story at the morning
service, in the form of a pageant,
and following the close of the
service the congregation are
invited to share a time of
fellowship over lunch.

Christmas then and now.

part were Elaine Rooney and
Anne Marie Beaucage. At the
candlelighting ceremony

The "Gift of Love". Kim
Knapman lit the second for the
"Gift of Wholeness", Lynn Evans
for the "Gift of Freedom", Anne
Marie Beaucage for the "Gift of
Victory" and CarenBeaucage for
the "Gift of Grace.
During the service the girls
passed the "Peace of God" to the
members of the congregation by
taking the hands of the first
