Chairman
to run again
When members of the Huron
County Board of Education were
given an opportunity on Monday
afternoon to announce their
candidacy to top Board positions,
only present Chairman Herb
Turkheim indicated his intention
to seek that position.
There will be a contest for the
vice-chairman's position
however, An eight year veteran
of the Board, Marian Zinn and.
John Elliott both indicated their
aspirations for that post,
Trustee J.P. Alexander told the
meeting he would seek election to
the chairmanship of the
management committee and
E.C, Hill indicated his interest in
the chairmanship of the
education committee.
Chairman Turkheim explained
to those seeking office that to
have their name stand they must
submit nomination papers
bearing their own and the
signature of two other board
members by the inaugural
meeting on January 3. Further
nominations will be accepted at
that time as well.
RAP staff
Continued from front page
the RAP staff would come under
the same schedule as the other
town employees whatever con-
tract was worked out.
He suggested RAP members
were worrying needlessly over
the entire situation, saying that
"it will work itself out at the first
of the year."
It is expected the personnel
committee will make a recom-
mendation to council regarding
the recall of the three employees
whose layoff terminates on
January 7. Recreation director
Jim McKinlay is not affectted by
that date as his layoff did not
start until some weeks after the
other three employees.
Poll schools
for pool use
Arena manager Alvin Willert
was asked this week to contact
area schools regarding the
possible use of the local swim-
ming pool for their physical
education classes in May and
June,
The suggestion had been made
earlier this year, but members
did not know whether recreation
Jim McKinlay had contacted the
schools prior to his layoff last
month.
Willert was asked to check into
the situation and if the,contacts
had not been made he7ays 'asked
to do so.
;The three schools in'Exeter will
be contacted as well as the
central schools in Stephen and
Usborne.
Lossy Fuller also suggested
that advertisements seeking pool
staff for the summer should be
placed in January. "If we do it
early, we should get good staff,"
she explained.
