CRAFTS OF ALL DESCRIPTION—The Playhouse Guild held their annual Christmas tea and bazaar
last Saturday in Southcott Pines and it was a busy affair. Crafts of every description plus Christmas
decorations, novels and baking attracted a large number of people from the entire area.

The December meeting of the.
Grand Bend Golden Age Club was
. held Wednesday afternoon at the
Village In Retreat with 36 in
attendance.
Wellwood Gill, convener of the
Christmas entertainment
committee, introduced Rev. H,
Moore of the United Church, who
gave a reading "There is a
present".
A sing song of favourite carols
was enjoyed using the-'new
Christmas song books for the first
time.
In the absence of president, Bill
Love, who was ill, Mrs. Mary
Ravelle presided. "Christmas
Angels" was read by Mrs. Lillian
Brown and "The Beautiful Life"
,by Wellwood Gill,
A collection of $36 was taken up
and will be sent to "Care" of
Canada instead of the clubs usual
exchange of Christmas gifts.
A lively afternoon of bingo was
enjoyed with many members
winning prizes.
A delicious Christmas lunch
was served by the Inn staff.
Church news
Twenty-five ladies from
Church of God met Saturday
evening for a chicken dinner at
the home of Mrs. Janet
Desjardine, who was assisted by
her daughter Valerie.
Mrs. Morley Desjardine
conducted a worship service on a
Christmas theme and they
listened to a record of the story of
Jesus birth, The Bible message of
John 3-16 was read.
During the social time, Mrs.
Russell Snider conducted games
and all enjoyed carol singing.
The Church of God men's club
met last Monday evening and had
dinner at the Old Mill in Parkhill.
Following this a business
meeting was held at Ken
MacGregor's home. • New
president elected was Ferman
Snyder. In the social time they
viewed scenery slides.
The second Sunday in Advent
was observed at the United
Church Sunday morning. Greg
Ratz, of Shipka, lit the
candles,
The choir anthem was "The
Lord my Shepherd is".
Rev. H. Moore's sermon topic
was "To all who receive Him".
There was a good attendance at
the United Church Sunday School
concert, Friday night.
Kindergarten and nursery
school children did finger play
acting.
Primary children did Christ-
mas recitations.,
The teen agers presented a
play "Merry Christmas
Annabelle" and a reading "Day
after Christmas" by Sharon
Johnson.
The couples club presented a
pantomime the "Christ Child
Comes".
The junior classes presented
stories of Christmas in other
lands and a reading "Santa's
Romance" by Robin Kraft.
Carol singing was enjoyed at
the opening and closing and
Santa arrived with treats for the
children.

Mrs. Mike Erickson attended the
wedding Saturday of their niece
and cousin Grace Angus to
Gilbert Kovinski at People's
United Church, Welland.
Sunday visitors with Mrs.
Rosie Grigg were her son and
family Mr. & Mrs. Nelson Grigg
and Kelly, Waterloo.
Mrs. Rufus Turnbull returned
home Sunday from University
Hospital, London.
Rev. John Campbell attended a
church business meeting Monday
and Tuesday in Hartford.
Shipka lady
passes away

Funeral service was held
Tuesday afternoon at the T.
Harry Hoffman Funeral Home,
Dashwood, for Edith (Burt)
Turnbull, who passed away at
Strathroy hospital on Saturday,
December 4 in her 77th year.
'Sheds survived by her husband,
Edward Turnbull, RR 1, Dash-
vThod, a brother Alfred of Gore
Bay and a brother James
(deceased), Several nieces and
nephews also survive. She was
the daughter of the late Charles
and Maryjane Burt, formerly of
Gore Bay.
A second service is 6eing held
at Gore Bay, Manitoulin Island,
Thursday, December 9, a 11 a.m.
Interment in Gordon Township
Cemetery, Gore Bay.
Ministers officiating were Rev.
H. Moore of Grand Bend, and
Rev. David Bould, Gore Bay.

visited Friday evening at
University Hospital, London with
their son-in-law, Jim Campbell,
who is a patient there.
Fred Gibson is a patient in St.
Joseph's Hospital) London.
Mr. & Mrs. Earl Russell of
Essex spent the weekend with
Mr. & Mrs, Cliff Russell and
family.
Mr. & Mrs. Ken Baker Jr,
Bonnie, Tracey and Shellie of
Stratford, spent the week end
with his parents.

wedding Saturday of their niece
and cousin, Grace Angus to

reception following the wedding.

the week end in Detroit with their
sister Sandra and family, Mr. &
Mrs. Tony Regier Jr. and
Christopher.
Persephone Morenz, of London,
spent last week at the farm with
her Morenz grandparents and
returned home on Saturday with
her parents.
