Investigate 15 accidents,
youth charged in breakin
The village of Lucan has
received word that approval has
been given for a Wintario grant
for the Lucan tennis courts.
Council heard a letter read at
Tuesday's regular meeting that a
cheque in the amount of $4,192.01
would be in the mail shortly,
Authorization was given to
have this amount turned over to
the arena board who operates the
tennis courts. They were con-
structed in the fall of 1975 and
were in operation in the spring of
1976.
The project was made possible
by the arena board, Lions club,
Junior Farmers and other
community groups., Cost was
approximately $17,000.
In other business, council:
Learned from the Ontario
Ministry of Culture and
Recreation that the policy
regarding purchase of sports
equipment for minor sports has
been changed.
New regulaticins will allow
local purchases !if monies are
raised by the benefitting groups
to match Wintario grants.
Received a recommendation
from village engineer J. P.
McIntyre that No Exit signs be
placed to designate two dead end
streets in Wilberforce Heights.
Approved a request from
McDace Limited to remove part
of sidewalk at 183 Main street to
install, a gas service for,_
Gas to the Irving Lodge. The
contractor will be required to
replace the broken sidewalk
portion immediately with asphalt
and concrete in the spring,
Agreed to purchase property
for a road allowance from Mrs.
Alice Cook on Beech Street. The
land required is seven feet 11
inches wide and the village will
be paying about $170.45 at the
rate of $1,250 per acre.
Backed their original decision
not to change building restric-
tions on three lots at the end of
Nicoline street. Don Bere Homes
asked that basements be allowed
and electric automatic sump
pumps be used to dispose of
drainage water.
The original restriction now
confirmed would not allow tany
basement more than one foot
below ground level.
Authorized preparation of a
bylaw to assume the streets in
phase one of Wilberforce Heights
at the end of the one year
maintenance period.
Appointed new clerk Melanson
as the lottery licencing officer for
the village.
Approval in principle was
given to a building permit ap-
plication from Larry Gibson to
erect an office building behind his
present building at 213 Main
street.
Gibson asked for permission to
erect a 43 feet by 45 feet building
behind the Iron Key which could
accommodate two stores and two
offices.
Council decided to get further
information from the village
engineer regarding the necessary
services and if construction is
allowed close to the creek before
making a final decision.

Lucan United Church
The Second Sunday of Advent
was observed in the Lucan United
church when Rev. Ewart
Madden took as his sermon "The
Manner of the Proclamation",
based on Isaiah 40, vs.. 31. He said
all stumbling blocks must be
removed from our lives before we
could "mount' up like eagles".
Instead of turning inward upon
ourselves when hardships come
we should look for the answer in
Isaiah's proclamation. We
recognize that there is evil in the
world and be prepared to do
battle for Jesus.Christ who loves
us with an everlasting love.
Mrs. Alex Jones sang a lovely
Welsh Carol "All Poor,Men and
Humble".
