Mrs. Edith Bell was in charge of the worship. The scripture was read by Mrs. Bertha MacGregor and Mrs. Esther Wright led in prayer. Mrs. m Bell gave a most in- teresting meditation on "The Birth of Hope and Peace", Mrs. Hyde presided over the business and read a poem on the "Least CoinMr's'lMalcolm Dougall gave the report of the nominating com- mittee as follows: president, Mrs. HarveyHyde;vice-president, Mrs. John Soldan; secretary, Mrs, Bert Thompson; ass't secretary, Mrs. John Soldan; treasurer, Mrs, Percy Campbell; Hensall women elect $A VE $1 0 "Holy Night" was the title of an excellent slide presentation of the Christmas theme given by Rev, E,S.Stephens of Brucefield at the Christmas meeting of the United Church Women of Hensall and Chislehurst United Church. Monday evening. Preceding the slides Rev. Stephens told a story, "If I had not come, showing what the. world might be like if Jesus had not been born. Carols were sung before and after the speaker. Mrs. Ken Elder opened the meeting with a simple but sincere devotional pointing out that it is Faith at Christmas time that Makes the Christmas, story come true again each year. It is the baby Jesus that brings us our faith, Reading the scripture was Mrs. Ken McLean. •momiNIMINNI111111111mr Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Jones of Hensall celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with an Open House at the Hensall United Church, Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Jones were married on the Finkbeiner homestead at Lot 11, Concession 8 of Stephen township on Hensall UCW pick officers The annual meeting of the Hensall U.C.W. chaired by Mrs. Ian McAllister, was held prior to the Christmas meeting when the following reports were given. Treasurer, Mrs. Walter Spencer; Finance, Miss Mary Goodwin; Friendship and Visitation, Mrs. Robert Cook; Supply, Mrs, Russell Erratt; Social Functions, Mrs. Roy Brock, The slate of officers for 1977 was presented by Mrs. Ron Mock and the election chaired by Mrs. Earle Rowe. Elected to office were, past president Mrs. Ian McAllister, president Mrs. Don Beck, first vice president Mrs. Grace Drummond, second vice- president Mrs. Carl Payne, secretary Mrs. Jack Drysdale, treasurer Mrs. Walter Spencer, Finance Miss Mary Goodwin, friendship and visitation Mrs. Robert Cook, social functions Mrs. Vern Alderdice. Supply and Welfare, Mrs. Russell Erratt; Unit 1 leader, Mrs. Ken Elder; Unit 2 leader, Mrs. Carl Payne; Unit 4 leader, Mrs. James McAllister; Nominations, Mrs. Cecil Pepper; nursery, Mrs. Edison Forrest and Mrs. Mary Alexander; Manse, Mrs. Don Beck, Mrs. Ron Mock and one member to be elected from Chislehurst, on his wedding day as being "sunshiny" with no snow evident. Congratulatory messages were received from Prime Minister Trudeau, Joe Clark, Robert McKinley and Jack Riddell. Guests who travelled the furthest distance to attend were Mr. & Mrs. Robert Kell of Churchill, Ontario, Mr. & Mrs. Jack Barr, Holyrood and Mr. & Mrs, Pete Stubbe, Waterloo. After their marriage they moved to the family farm at Lot 4, South Boundary of Stanley township and remained there until moving to their present home in Hensall in 1961. They have one daughter Mrs. Bernard (Margaret) Keyes and one son, Harold, RR 2 Hensall. They also have four grand- children and five great grand- children.
