Spirit of Christmas

As soon as the Christmas
dinner is over, food specialists at

ii
The Theme, "The Spirit of
Christmas" highlighted the latest
meeting of the Evening Unit of
Exeter United Church.
The notice in the Exeter United
Church Bulletin went like this;
Nineteen nights before Christmas
When all through the town
Many wise U,C.W. women
Will be looking around
For an evening of fun
And fellowship to cheer
Don't look any further
Come right over here
For Monday, December 6 at 8:15
The evening U.G.W. will be
having a ""Theme"
"The Spirit of Christmas" is what
it will be
And all of you ladies, we're
hoping to see.
Many ladies from town and
countrycame to learn of thespirit
of Christmas, Mrs. Glen Fisher,
unit leader, welcomed everyone
and read a poem "Home for
Christmas."
Mrs. Bruce Shapton convener
of the program had the ladies
participate in Christmas
charades. She hoped that
everyone would go home with the
true spirit, the inner spirit of
Christmas.
A playette entitled 'the Spirit
of Christmas" was enjoyed when
Mrs, Donald Hooper played the

part of Sam who was disgusted at
the attitude towards Christmas
taken by his wife Sarah, played
by Mrs. Allan Westcott. Sarah's
life was enlightened when "The
Spirit of Christmas" played by
Mrs. Lloyd Lovell, spent
sometime relating the miracles
of Christmas including carolers,
the manger scene, the wise men,
the tree and the lights on the
green evergreen tree,
When the Spirit left he left an
ornament star and on it was
"Beyond the Glitter" meaning
that there was more to Christmas
than the glitter. When Sam came
home from getting a few
groceries he just couldn't believe
that his wife wasn't scrooge
anymore. They invited both
families for Christmas and now
Sarah could even hear the
Christmas music,
During the play, the manger
scene was portrayed with Helen
Westcott as Joseph, Mrs. Norm
Walper as Mary, Mrs. Elmore
McBride, Janet and Bevan
Shapton as wise men,
Janet and Bevan Shapton sang
Deck the Halls as the carolers
and also acted the Lord's Prayer
by Amos 'N Andy.
A responsive worship service
was led by Mrs, Bruce Shapton,
Mrs. Elmore McBride read the
scripture, Luke 1, 46-55 and Mrs.
Norm Walper read a poem called
A Prayer for Christmas. The
closing prayer hoped that
everyone would take the True
Spirit of Christmas home with
them.

care of the dishes - or even
your guests.
Leftover turkey must be
refrigerated or frozen as soon as
dinner is over. If it's left at room
temperature, it deteriorates very
quickly.
Here's what you do, Take all
the meat off the carcass. Leave in
in as big pieces as possible to
prevent drying. Wrap and
refrigerate if you plan to use it
within two or three days; or
freeze it the following way, Wrap
the meat snugly in heavy-duty
aluminum foil or in durable
plastic freezer bags. Make the
bundles of a size suitable for one
meal. The smaller sizes or pieces
of meat can be placed in rigid
freezer containers and covered
with gravy. Pour leftover gravy
into freezer containers, leaving
1 2 inch headspace for expansion,
Package leftover stuffing
separately,
Label all of these to be used
within two months. Freeze im-
mediately. And, finally, break up
the carcass and put it into the
refrigerator if you plan to make
soup within a couple of days.
Now, you can get back to the
festivities, knowing that your
turkey leftovers will be safe to
eat.
