Recalling the fun filled and
successful turtle races of the
Gala Days of the past two
summers the Ailsa Craig and
District Lions Club felt a huge
turtle would be an appropriate
theme for their float for Santa
Claus parade. And the idea has
proved successful,
Saturday the Lions took first
prize in the Grand Bend Santa
Claus parade And third prize in
the Strathroy parade. The
delightful turtle will make his

REVISION OF RATES
FOR THE TOWN OF EXETER
The Exeter Public Utilities Commission is revising
hydro rates on all kilowatt hours used after
January 1, 1977.
This rate revision is the result of an increase in the
wholesale cost of electricity of 29.6% by Ontario
Hydro,
Ontario Hydro is being faced with the construction
of more expensive generating plants as most poten-
tial water power sites have been utilized. In addi-
tion fuel costs have increased and as an example
the price of coal increased from -13.00 a ton in
1973 to $40.00 a ton in 1975. The inflationary
costs of material and the high interest cost of
debentures are contributing factors in the proposed
increases.
In order for the Commission to maintain its high
standard of service and still meet the rising costs,
retail rates must be increased by 21.2%
Subject to Approval by Ontario Hydro

Different
ag course
Centralia College of
Agricultural Technology has
come pp with an unusual ap-
proach to its agricultural
structures course.
J.A. Underwood, head of the
college's agricultural
engineering department, puts
students to work constructing a
farm building.
Last fall, about 45 students
worked on a 26-foot by 16-foot
storage shed. This year, 50
second-year students are
working on a 16-foot addition.
"We've not trying to make
carpenters out of these students,"
said Mr. Underwood, "We're
just trying to give them some
practical experience so they will
know the basics."
The experience will be helpful
to students when they begin
farming and have to deal with
building contractors.
According to Mr. Underwood,
the program is popular with
second-year students at the
college, Most of the ap-
proximately 50 students enrolled
in the agricultural business
management program have
selected the structures course as
an elective.
In addition to providing
practical experience for the
students, the project is useful to
the college, since the new
building is being used for
machine storage. Another ad-
vantage of the program is that
students are constructing pole-
frame buildings which can be
dismantled when necessary, and
the materials can be used again.
