Home and School meeting
Ailsa Craig area parents debate future
implement before moving to this
area.
The meeting was then opened
for debate and questions were
asked of both the speakers.
Several issues were raised and
points were clarified by both Mrs,
May and Mr. Rowley before a
vote on the issue was taken.
As a result of the ballot, which
showed a high percentage in
favour of remaining with the
Home and School Association, the
group will remain with the•
Federation.
It was the feeling of many
present that such an open and
informative meeting was ex-
tremely helpful, not only to the
new parents moving into the
community and parents with
children just starting in Kin-
dergarten, but to the whole group
who felt they had little knowledge
of the whole subject. Many of the
benefits and the full operation of
the Home and School had not
been known to many present.
The local Home and School
executive also challenged those
present pointing out that out of
166 families with children at-
tending the East Williams School,
only about 30 parents were
present at the meeting. They
asked for better support both
financially and in attendance at
evenings especially arranged for
parents. They also asked for any
suggestions for programmes
which parents might like to have
arranged.
This year's executive consists
of Mrs. P. Twynstra, president,
Mr. A.W. Rowley, vice-president,
Mrs R. Campbell, secretary and
Mr. G. Nordemann, Treasurer

A Wright vote could be a step in the

"How much do you care if there
is a Home and School
Association?" "Would you rather
be affiliated with the Ontario
Federation of Home and School
Association Inc.
'
but operate as a
parent-school liaison group?"
Would simply an East Williams
Public School—Parent group be
adequate?"
These are some of the questions
about 40 parents with children
attending the East Williams
Memorial Public School battled
with Thursday evening at a
special meeting called to
determine the wishes of the
group.
The meeting was chaired by
Mr. Bill Stewart, a parent whose
last child is presently in grade
eight at East Williams, He
stressed that the group is
currently part of the Home and
School Federation and its
membership would continue until
the end of the school year. The
vote taken was to determine the
wishes of the group for the 1977-78'
year on.,,
Mrs. Marie May, Regional
Vice-President of the Home and
School Association was the guest
speaker for the evening and
presented several advantages of
remaining with the Federation.
She stressed that the Federation
has become very much a
pressure group and "is one of the
most influential with the
Ministry of Education".
Mr. A.W. Rowley of Nairn then
presented the alternatives,
giving as an example the Nor-
thridge School Association with
which he served and ..helped
