Wein Clerk By CAROL GINGE RICH Huron, Park and Lucan minor hockey teams broke even in four games played over the weekend. Huron Park bantams won their game4-2 while theHuron Park pee wees were victorious by a score of 8-3. The midget game was won 6-0 by Lucan and the Irish atoms downed Huron Park 12-4. Jeff Shipley went on a scoring spree to lead the Lucan atoms to their win with a four goal per- formance. Next in line with a two goal effort was Brent Bannerman while single goals were fired by Jim Shipley, Tim Shipley, Jess Crawford, John Grace, Paul Crunican and Brian Haygarth. Steve Gould fired two suc- cessful shots to pace the Huron Park scoring attack. Adding one goal apiece were Sean Whiteford and Brett Batten. Dennis Johnston with a hat trick to his credit was the top scorer for the Huron Park pee wees during their 8-3 win over Lucan. Jerry Hodgins was close behind with two scores and Bob Rook, Steve O'Neil and Robbie Winger each scored in single fashion. Getting one goal each for Lulan were Jeff Liley, Russ Hayter and Robbie Black, Richard Lather and Ralph pass and run play front quar- terback John Van Gerwen to Gard Baird, After a Doug Mclsaac gain of four yards and two South. Huronpenalties, Van Gerwen found Steve Knight all alone and the Hensall youngsters scored on. a 25 yard gain. John Van Gerwen went over from the one yard line for the second SH major score and the score was 12-0 at the end of the first quarter. Steve Knight chalked up of the first of two second period touch- downs as he scored from the Norwell 20 yard line on a reverse, Gord Baird grabbed his second long pass from Van Gerwen, this time for 45 yards and the fourth touchdown for the Panthers, Steve Knight was good with the convert attempt and all 25 points for the Panthers were on the board. John Van Gerwen was good on 10 of 15 pass attempts for a total of 240 yards. Along the ground the Panthers gained 266 yards with Brad Cann the top ball carrier with 82 yards in nine carries. Gord Baird with five cracks at the line picked up 65 yards. Heading the defensive unit with the most key tackles were Brad Taylor, Rick Bilcke, Jeff O'Brien, Ken Pinder and Pete Kincaid. After the game, coach Ron Bogart commented, "Our spirit was good today. We wanted to Wells chalked up two goals apiece to lead, the Huron. Park bantams to their 4-2 victory. The Lucan markers were notched by David De Boer and Jamie Shipley. Six members of the Lucan Midgets shared in the scoring in their 6-0 win over Huron Park. It was the second straight game that the offence has turned in an excellent first half and the defence was responsible for a shutout also for two games in a row. Against Clinton Thursday, the Panthers scored 33 of their 39 points in the first half. Quarterback John Van Gerwen and Ken Pinder each scored two touchdowns in the win over Central Huron, Van Gerwen went over from eight yards .out in the first quarter and scored a major from the Clinton two yard line in the second period. Pinder scored his six pointers also on short drives at the line from two and three yards out. Brad Cann chalked up a major score on a 20 yard gallop and Steve Knight scored on an 18 yard pass and run play, Paul Brooks was good on three convert at- tempts. Juniors bow out The South Huron Junior footballers although winning one of their two games this week failed to make the piayotts. Tuey edged Central Huron 7-6 Thur- sday but dropped a 14-7 decision to Norwell, Tuesday. South Huron scoring in Tuesday's loss came late in the fourth quarter. Brian Mercer kicked a single point and Sean Walden grabbed a forward pass from signal caller Dave Atthill toia *aced 25 yards for a touch- down. Brian Mercer's single point on a 25 yard kick in the fourth period allowed the Panthers to down Clinton 7-6, Mercer also scored the other six points for his club. He went over for six points from 12 yards out in the second quarter. The South Huron senior Pan- thers assured themselves of first place in the Huron-Perth Con- ference standings Tuesday with a convincing 25-0 win over Norwell of Palmerston, The victory also gave the Panthers home field advantage for playoff competition. They will meet Stratford Northwestern in a sudden-death semi-final at the South Huron athletic field Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. If the Panthers are successful Tuesday they will meet either Goderich or Norwell for the Conference championship and that contest will be played Saturday, November 13 at South Huron, In another Conference game, Thursday, the senior Panthers blanked Central Huron of Clinton 39-0. Tremendous First Half The Panthers combined a tremendous offensive threat in the first half and a strong defensive effort to move ahead 25-0. The only serious Norwell scoring threat came on the first series of plays in the first quarter but it ended when a field goal attempt was blocked and Ken Pinder recovered.
