During the last few months one
group of people in and around
Exeter have been turning their
social events into money raising
projects' for the South Huron
Recreation Centre,
Members of this group, The
Crazy Eight, have taken turns
planning and hosting projects
that the community could enjoy
as they participated,
As well as making their in-
dividual contributions to the
Recreation Centre Campaign the
groups decided to raise $1,000 by
the end of this year through
various social events.
Beginning in June, members of
the group donated articles which
were sold at a garage sale held at
Neil and Rosemary Straw ,The,
$153 from that garage sale was
the first deposit in the bank ac-
count.
Early in September a family
car rally was held. Twenty-five
cars left Exeter and rallied to Ila
Mather's father's farm for a corn
roast.
The five dollar per car
registration added another $125
to the account. Proceeds from
coffee, hot dogs, pop, etc, paid the
advertising expenses.
At Exeter Fall Fair time a T,V,
tennis hockey game was pur-
chased and the sale of tickets on
the game realized $153, John
Morgan of Exeter won the draw
for the game.
About two weeks ago a dinner
was was held for 20 couples at the
home of Fran and Bruce Shaw,
The men cooked and served the
food and the ladies paid $10.00
each for their meal and $200,00
was raised.
Sunday, October 24, a second
family car rally was held, Thirty-
eight teams left the Exeter fair
grounds and rallied around
Usborne township. Most of the
teams arrived at Allan and
Marlene Rundle's farin to check
in and compare notes. Another
$190 was added to the coffers.
At present the Crazy Eight
group which consists of Larry
and Joyce Black, Don and Lorna
Finkbeiner, Arnold and Ha
Mathers,Roland and Marianne
McCaffery, Allan and Marlene
Rundle, Bruce and Fran Shaw,
Neil and Rosemary Straw, Allan
and Carole Taylor, with a lot of
help from their friends, have
raised Over $800.
These people have planned a
couple of other social events
which should bring the total to
well over their goal,
The next family car rally is
planned for Sunday, December
5. Cars will leave the fair
grounds between one o'clock and
two o'clock and again this rally
route will end near Exeter
(unless you get lost). Join us to
enjoy yourself and help the
campaign.
