HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Exeter Times-Advocate, 1976-11-04, Page 5Student council *subject prizes In last week's account of the awards presented at the recent Commencement exercises at South Huron District High School, the Student Council subject prizes were omitted, They were as follows; English I - Tony Kyle and Cynthia Gunn; English II, Cynthia Gunn; French, Agnes Van Esbroeck; Family Studies, Cynthia Gunn; History, Cynthia Gunn; Biology, Hannah Mathers and Gary Ducharme; Physics, Nancy Underwood; Accounting 550, Patti Roweliffe. The Jack Smith shield in Spanish went to Mary Shoebot- torn and Sue Ann Schroeder while the Canadian Canners shield in chemistry went to Vincent Glaab, Paul Shapton was the winner of two Earl Campbell shields in Mathematics I and II and Vin- cent Glaab was recipient of the Campbell shield in Mathematics III/. The town of Exeter shield in geography was won by Liz Deichert and Tony Kyle. The Moncur scholarship and shield went to Cynthia Gunn, Paul Shapton and Vincent Glaab. BEST DRESSED BROWNIES — Members of the Exeter Girl Guide and Brownie packs enjoyed a Hallowe'en party, Thursday. Participating in the best dressed event were Cathy Coates, Michele Aunger, Laurie McLelland and Lisa Rankin. HEBER DAVIS SAINTSBURY Friday evening a Hallowe'en party was held in the Parish Hall with about 30 young people at- tending, The judges Mrs. Hazel Eaton, Mrs. Cheryl Carroll had a dif- ficult problem, but judged the following as best in their class. The prettiest, Tracy Quinton; most original, Cristine Blay; best couple, Marguerite Greenlee and Marion Latta; Scariest, Mary Mills; best dressed man, Heber Davis; cutest, Pam Greenlee; best disguise, Angela Kelly; youngest, Lisa Carroll. This was followed by a number of games with prizes for the children. Lunch was enjoyed by all. Mr. & Mrs. Harry Carroll held a firstbirthdav dinner party for their granddaughter Lisa. Sunday Mr. & Mrs. Wayne Carroll, Lisa's parents and Mr. & Mrs. Ford Dyer, Sarnia, and Mr. & Mrs. Ron Carroll, lan and Brenda were their guests. Mrs. Earl Greentee held a quilting bee for the church on Monday. Mrs. Maurice Mac- Donald, Grand Bend, Mrs. Raymond Greenlee and Mrs. Jack Dickins, Exeter assisted the ladies. Mr. & Mrs. Cleve Pullman were Thursday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Heber Davis. Cleve entered Victoria Hospital November 1 for eye surgery, Mr. & Mrs. Bob Tindall were guests at the "Four County Horseman's Banquet at Glencoe Saturday evening. Little Misses Kimberly and Pamela Greenlee spent the weekend with cousins Nancy, Marylou and Robt. Tindall. Shipka man marks 94 years Friday evening dinner guests with him and Dorothy Harlton, were Mr. & Mrs. Stanley Jackson of Seaforth, Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Harlton of Granton, Mrs. Mabel Guenther and Karen. Mrs. Clyde Nicholson, of Courtright, held a family dinner in her father's honor Sunday. Guests were Mr. & Mrs. Ken Westman and family, London; Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Nicholson and family; Mr. & Mrs. Ken Moore and family, Sarnia; Dorothy Harlton; Mrs. Mabel Guenther and Karen; Mrs. Wilmer Harlton and Tom of St. Mary s visited their uncle during the week of his birthday. Bridal showers Several showers have been held for Diane Hodge, bride-elect of November 6. A family shower was held at Huron Park and hosted by Mrs. Maxine Pryde. Another family one was held in Crediton hall hosted by Mrs. Don Haines of Exeter and Mrs. Bill Finkbeiner. A Shipka community shower was held in Credition United church, and a girl friend shower at the home of Sandra Munn, Hensall. Personals Mrs. Mabel Desjardine was transferred to South Huron hospital at Exeter, from St, Joseph's, London, Monday. Best wishes of this community go out to Mrs. Desjardine who celebrated her 80th birthday November 4. Edna Willert of Mitchell visited Monday with Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Devine and Fred Weiburg, and other friends in this area. The wedding rehearsal parties for the Hodge-Finkbeiner wed- ding were entertained at the home of Mr. & Mrs. .Harold Fink- beiner, Friday evening. Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Keller, were their grandson and wife, Mr. & Mrs. Stewart Keller, and the Keller Sr's great granddaughter, Sarah Anne, Stratford. Enjoy party at Dashwood By MRS. IRVIN RADER DASHWOOD Neighbors of Mr. & Mrs. Delmar Miller decked out in costumes gathered at their home Saturday evening. Willis Walper won for the scariest and most original costume; Harold Hen- drick for the funniest. For the children, Allen Hendrick was the funniest; Chris Miller, the scariest; and Julie Restemayer, the most original. Several games were played with Glen Restemayer winning in bobbing for apples; Elaine Hendrick for the best Jack O'lantern drawing. Cards and social evening followed. A good time was had by all. 4-H Meeting The Shredded T'Wheats held their 4th meeting at Mrs. Delmar Miller's home. She started the evening by discussing with us the different types of flour and their uses. We then learned how to make basic muffins, bran muffins and apple coffee cake. Home made jam and honey with muffins made. a delicious snack. Mrs. Robert Green discussed the handout sheet. L.W.M.L. Meeting Wednesday October 27, was the Lutheran Women's Missionary League meeting when the president, Mrs. Delmar Miller presided for a brief business meeting. There will be a Christian Growth Workshop at Mitchell November 15. Election of officers was held with all of- ficers returned for another year. 4-H Meeting Dashwood 4-H club No. 2 held their fifth meeting at the home of Sandra Schroeder. The 16 members answered the roll call, "Three things I have learned about flour". Discussion on Achievement Day gave everyone a chance to contribute suggestions. The group activity was making a supper dish using one of the pastas, Lasagna. The main topics for discussion were "Around the clock with cereals" and "The popular pastas". The meeting was completed by sampling the Lasagna which everyone said was delicious. Along with members of the ladies' Aid and Youth they made Chrismoms, under the guidance of Mrs. Ruthanne Merner. Personal Ray VanDorsselaer has returned home from University hospital, London. Mrs. Dave Rader accompanied Mrs. Edith Scott, Crediton, and Mrs. Betty Morley, Brinsley, to Midland last week where they spent a few days with Mrs. Laura Lackie, Kitchener, at her sum- mer home. Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Albert Rader were Mr. & Mrs. Jack Cudmore, Grand Bend, and Mr. & Mrs. George Tiernan and family. The occasion marked Mrs. Cudmore's bir- thday. Members of Zion Lutheran Church travelled by bus and cars to Kitchener Sunday evening for the Lutheran Hour Rally to hear Dr. Oswald Hoffman, Lutheran Hour speaker.
