Saturday, October 16, Joseph Frederick Darling, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Darling of Exeter married Diane Marie McCann, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clement McCann. The Mc- Carins are well-known residents of the Mt. Carmel area and a member of the parish of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Over 200 boys and girls par- ticipated in the Middlesex Coun- ty Cross Country Meet held Oc- tober 14 at East Williams Memorial Public School. Ten public schools within the county competed. In the boys' division Ekcoe took top place with Ausable Springs and East Williams plac- ing, second and third. Parkhill came in fourth with Caradoc Central following. Steve McKay of Ausable Springs took the two miles in 11.16 setting a new course record. Gavin Robertson also of Ausable Springs came in second, and Don Howe of Ekcoe placed third. Jeff Boutcher of East Williams and Jeff Brooks of Met- calf came in fourth and fifth with Brad Henry of Ekcoe taking six- th. In the girls' division East Williams placed first. Caradoc Central took second place with Valleyview taking third. Metcalf and Westminster placed fourth and fifth. By MRS. Mrs. Barry Bullock, Huron Park, and Mrs. Stan Preszcator visited Thursday with Mrs. Harold McCallum, R.R. 1, Walton, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Regele, R.R. 4, Walton and Mrs. Joe Thornton, Seaforth Hospital. Mrs, Earl Heist is a patient in St. Marys Hospital, St. Marys. Mr. & Mrs. Stan Preszcator and girls visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Ken Preszcator, R.R. 5, Clinton and with Mr, & Mrs. Ed- ward Regele, R.R, 4, Walton. Lorna Carlyle of Delaware ran the mile and a half course set for the girls in the winning time of 10 minutes 15 seconds thus breaking her own record set the previous week. Susan Fearnley of Met- calfe came in second with Elizabeth Ingham of East Williams close behind taking third place. Marla Bulgin of East Williams, Kathy Janes of Caradoc Central and Renene Rate of Metcalfe placed fourth. fifth and sixth. Craig club hear guest speakers Middlesex County Home Economist, Mrs. Carol Crerar was the guest of the 4H Ailsa Craig Dinner Belles Tuesday, October 5. That evening the girls met at the home of Melinda Harmer. "The Third Meal", referring to the lighter meal of the day has been the subject under study these past several weeks, and "lunches" was the topic of the evening. Planning, preparing and packing were among the aspects discussed. A class of four lunches was then judged by the members. The meeting climaxed with the girls each`sampling a number of sandwich spreads, many which were new and different to them. Tuesday. October 19, the members will host a buffet meal for their mothers and their spon- sor's executive, the Riverview Women's Institute. The menu will be planned and completely prepared by the girls. It will be held at the home of Mrs. Ruth McCallum. Throughout the course the girls have studied such subjects as picnics, bar-b-ques, buffets, casseroles, salads, omelettes, etc., under the leadership of Mrs. Fran Chamberlain, assisted by Mrs. Sandy McFadden. Those present were Mr. & Mrs. vy. Routly, Exeter; Mr, & Mrs. Don Willcox and family, Kit- chener; Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Rannie and family, Brantford; Mr. & Mrs, James Sinclair, London; Miss Kathy Sinclair, London and Mr, Brian Walters, Toronto. Mr. & Mrs. Wayne Shannon, Michael and Katie of Sarnia; Mr. & Mrs, Robert Waddell of Toronto; Mr. & Mrs. Jim Sweit- zer of London; Mr. & Mrs. Steve Johns, Kevin and Arnie, Mr. Er- nest Aube, Woodstock; Miss Laura Johns, Waterloo spent Thanksgiving with Mr. & Mrs. Howard Johns and Mary. The second meeting of Elim- ville Two was held October 6 with everyone present. They had the 4- H pledgOand answered the roll call. The members 'discussed • the nutrients found in bran; en- dosperm and germ. They also discussed the meanings of gluten, whole grain. Now, all the mem- bers can go home and tell their mothers how to make cereal more attractive. Cheryl Parsons and Cathy Miller demonstrated. how to prepare cooked cereal. Lisa Westcott and 'Mary Johns made "Dogwoods". The cereal was thought to' be "bird seed" and the Dogwoods were very good. The third meeting of Elimville Two was held on October 13 at Lisa Westcott's. The 4-H pledge was answered and the roll call answered. The members discussed "Cereals in Many Forms". Everyone brought a prepared cereal to the meeting for one another to see what grain it was made of. Nancy Cooper, Karen Johns and Debbie Taylor demonstrated how to make "Cherry Bran Squares." Several from the Community attended Thames Road Church Anniversary. Anniversary at Kippen UC St. Andrews Church, Kippen, celebrated their 109th Anniver- sary services Sunday with an in- spiring sermon. key., Rev. Harold Snell of Exeter who spoke on "Looking Ahead". He hoped that in the years to come that the church would become more evangelistic, that all Christians would be united and that prayer would. become more important. Mrs. G. Moffatt played the ac-' companiment and 'the Huronia Male Choir under the direction of Mrs. Marianne McCaffrey provided the music. Mrs. McCaf- frey also favoured with a solo, "Reach Out And Touch". Ushers were Gary and Grant Love and Dwight and Lyle Kinsman. Carmel area who, until recently, hid bashfully behind this region's rural atmosphere of barns and meadows finally could flee from the spotlight no longer as Graduating Exercises were held at North Middlesex district High School on Saturday, October 16, honouring last year's fourth and fifth year students. The latest possessors of Secon- dary School Graduation Diplomas from Mt. Carmel are Barb Jeromkin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Jeromkin, Jr.; and Pam Trainor, the daughter of Mrs. Mary Trainor who has recently moved to London. Barb, now in London and Pam, now in Peterborough, are both putting those diplomas to good use as they engage in their chosen pursuits. Other fourth year graduates include Karen and Kevin Hodgins, members of Mr. and Mrs. Clare Hodgins family, Peter Rotermann, the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Rotermann, and Christina McKinnon, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron McKinnon. As well, Karen Hodgins received the Parkhill Gazette Shorthand Award and her brother Kevin added several awards to his collection including the Gibbs Brothers Scholarship, the Ailsa Craig Legion Junior Track and Field Award and the Coaches Award. Honour Graduation Diplomas were handed out to several area students including Heather Trainor, another of Mrs. Mary Trainor's daughters, Jo-An Guedens, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Guedens, Monika Rotermann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Rotermann, and Pauline Regan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Regan.
