Salary rates for the Huron-
Perth County Roman Catholic
Separate School lioard office
staff are to be increased $13.65
per week each for the calendar
year 1977.
The board increased the hourly
rate for school secretaries from
$3.63 to $3,94 per hour for the
school year 1976-77.
Donald Crowley of Gadshill
reported that arrangements for
the official opening of the school
addition at St. Patrick's at
Kinkora have been completed.
He said auxiliary Bishop John M.
Sherlock of London will dedicate
the addition at 2 p.m. on October
31.
In other business at the board
meeting in Dublin Tuesday night
approval was given to donate $125
to the KiWanis Music Festival in
Stratford, an increase of $25 over
last year.
John Vintar, ' director of
education, in his remarks to the
board, said that there does not
appear to be any capital monies
available for building additions
or doing extensive alterations to
schools in 1977. He said the
board's 1976 priorities hold little
chance of receiving ministry
approval for at least another
year.
Jack Lane, superintendent of,
business, presented a summary
of the announcement by the
minister of education in a
memorandum to school boards
on October 1 regarding the 1977
general legislative grants. Mr.
Lane revealed that the board's
expenditure per pupil would
increase from $1197.54 to $1254,22
or 13.24t percent in 1977, Tran-
slated, he said, this means the
total ordinary expenditure for
grant purposes may increase by
$303,800 or 9.7 percent. He' ex-
plained the difference between
the per pupil increase and the
total yield in dollars is due to a
projected decline in enrolment,
The fqllowing resolution to the
minister of education was ap-
proved by a narrow margin (6
to 5): "Whereas the deter-
mination of the number of
trustees and the distribution of
those determined for a separate
school board is set out in Section
110 of the Education Act, 1974,
and for - the purposes of the
distribution, the equalized
assessment of residential and
farm properties only is to be
used, and in the proposal for the
Reform of Property Taxation in
Ontario, farmland, and farm
buildings are to be assessed at 100
percent of market value with the
taxes paid by the province, and if
the proposal in its present form
should pass final reading in the
Legislature, a question arises:
Will farm land and farm
buildings be deemed to be: (a)
business and commercial
assessment, or (b) residential
arid .rm assessment.
Therefore be it resolved that
attention be drawn to the
ministry of education expressing
concerti that unless farm land
and farm buildings have a
category of distinction other than
"Residential and Farm," the
assessment so created by 100
percent of Market value will
weight the rural versus urban
trustees 'to be elected to a
separate school board following
implementation of the Tax
Reioritt Plan, and be it further
will speak on The Call of the
Christian in 1976 and Living the
Call in morning and afternoon
sessions respectively.
Trustees, Ted Geoffrey of
Zurich and Michael Connolly, of
• Kippen reported on the 25th
convention of the Catholic
Parent-Teacher Association in
St. Catharines on October 1, 2 and
3,- which they attended. Mr.
Connolly said they were informed
the C.P.T.A. is becoming weaker
and weaker. He said there were
no representatives there by
m embers,'-. frotri the Huron-Perth
or Middlesex associations.
Howard Shantz, of Stratford
remarked that perhaps the board

supply teacher at an estimated
$52.
Preliminary approval was
granted for a grade eight ex-
cursion of 42 students from
Usborne Central School to visit
Montreal and Quebec City bet-
ween May 16 and May 19 next
year. Community and parental
discussions will now be held on
the subject to set specific details
which are to be brought back to
the board for final approval.
The trip is planned because the
Quebec City and Montreal area is
closely related to Grade seven
and eight Geography, History
and French programs and the
school staff felt that first hand
experience would reinforce
material taught in the past and
material to be taught in future.

porters. He said that about 10
percent of these people contacted
to switch over their assessment
to the catholic schools.
Mr. Shantz offered the help of
the Stratford trustees in checkin'
