Mrs. Gerald Dearing reported on the Officers Conference and She and Mrs. Art Ford were appointed delegates to the county rally in Dashwood, Monday. An invitation to entertain at the November birthday party, Bluewater Rest Home was ac- cepted, Mrs. Ed Nethercott chaired the program and introduced the guest speaker Mrs. Jon Dinney of Country Flowers, Exeter. Her topic was "The Care and Watering and Kinds of Plants". She was thanked by Mrs. Glenn Hodgins, Mrs. Eric Finkbeiner discussed the motto "All the Flowers of All the Tomorrows are in the Seeds of Today". The Citizenship and World Affairs conveners were in charge of the program; the lunch was provided by the October Program committee. Persona Is Last Tuesday Rev. & Mrs. Bruce Pierce and Mrs. Ed Fink- beiner attended the United Church Presbyteial at Listowel, Rev. Pierce conducted the communion service at the meeting. Mrs. Robert Jackson spent ten days with Mr & Mrs. George Schnuble, Base Borden. Mr. Jackson was in Base Borden Sunday to bring Mrs. Jackson home. They rejoice over the safe arrival of a grandson, Dale Lamport enjoyed a tour of England, Scotland, Wales and Southern Ireland as a member of a motor coach camping group. To be under 30 was a requirement for registration. Dale was the only Canadian. There was one American, three South Africans, the rest of the 38 members were Australians and New Zealanders. Three crew members lookedaf ter their needs. They slept in tents and had their food served outdoors. There were obvious indications of the drought suffered in Great Britain but none of the economic crisis there. Mr. & Mrs. David Pike, Toronto, spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Nelson Lamport. Members of the Women's Institute, Mrs. Gerald Dearing, Mrs. Art Ford, Mrs. Cora Wein, Mrs. David Cottel, Mrs. Ed Hendrick, Mrs. Sam King, Mrs Robert Ball, Mrs. Cliff Kenney attended the 25th anniversary of Institute services at the Huron County Rally held in the Dash- wood Community Centre, Monday. HUGH MORENZ SHIPKA Congratulations to Jim and Linda Dietrich, on the birth of their baby son, named James George Lawrence, a brother for Mary Lynn. Visitors during the week and Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Keller, were family members which included, Mr. & Mrs. Don Keller, Goderich; Mr. & Mrs. Max Windsor, Billy and John of Exeter; Mr. & Mrs. Robert Feltz, Terry and Tammy May, of Brinsley and Mr. & Mrs. Roy Gibson, Mark and Bradley of Crediton. Mrs. Keller is still recuperating from surgery some months ago, and requires the daily service of a V.Q.N. nurse. Bill Maier and his son, Bill Jr. of Mio, Michigan, visited Saturday with his cousins, Mr, & Mrs. Hugh Morenz and other area relatives. The family had been in Toronto, where Mr. Maier's oldest daughter, Christy, is hospitalized. She had been visiting a friend in Oakville, and was involved in a serious auto accident, where she sustained a broken back. Sid and Eleanor Durie, have returned from a holiday in London, England. While there, they visited Windsor Castle, Stratford-on-Avon, and Warwick castle among other places of interest. Their daughter, Lynn Chambers St. Catharines visited with her brother Glenn during their parents absence. By MRS. E. SUMMERS GRANTON The Happy Gang met Wed- nesday afternoon with Mrs, Harold Westman presiding and opening the meeting with a Hymn Sing, Two minutes silence was ob- served in memory of two members who had passed away, Mrs. Robert Rainey and Mr. Thomas Dickenson. It was decided to have a Xmas dinner in November and a committee was named to make the arrangements. Mrs. James Kerr gave a very interesting account of their recent trip to Ireland where they went to visit Mr. Kerr's brother in Rathfriland County Down, she described the strict security that is being carried out concerning visitors and conditions generally and also referred to the scenic beauty of the country. Mr. & Mrs. Kerr also made a short visit to relatives in Edin- burgh, Scotland. After singing a couple of wellknown Irish songs, the members spent the remainder of the afternoon playing cards. Lunch was prepared by the committee in charge, Charlotte Kerr, Daisy Gregory and Eileen Summers. Members with birthdays in August and September and having their names on the bir- thday cake were Mary Allen, Ethel Eedy, Edith Westman, Amelia Jameson, Jean Dickin- son, Clifford McRobert and Warren Gregory. Church news At the United Church Rev. Elwood Morden was in charge of the morning worship and of- ficiated at the service of Holy Communion Sunday, World Wide Communion Day. The sermon was entitled "Christ's Love For The World" presenting the need and concern to be involved in Mission to all people. Words spoken in love in this busy world may cause someone to listen and take heart. A reminder was given of the United Church Moderator's visit, Rev. Wilbur Howard to Metropolitan United Church, London, Tuesday, October 17. The manse committee placed a thank you notice in the Church bulletin to all who assisted with the recent improvements on the Manse. There was no service at St. Thomas Anglican Church on Sunday, the congregation joined with St. Paul's Kirkton on the occasion of their harvest Thanksgiving service. 4-H news The first meeting of the new 4- H club The Third Meal was held Saturday at the home of leader Mrs. Michael O'Shea, The meeting opened with each girl introducing herself to the rest of the members, Ann Garrett was elected president, Shelly Eagan was secretary for the meeting. The following members were chosen to be the cooks for the next meeting, Ann Garrett, Brenda St. Dennis, Betty Johnson and Brenda Tomlin. A name for the club was discussed, and Gwen Hodgins gave an account of the 4-H con- vention in Toronto where she was a delegate. Mrs. O'Shea demonstrated the different measuring techniques and discussed the four day meal record. Leader Mrs. Marlene French talked about the patterns of meals. Some of the girls demonstrated how to measure salt, brown sugar, flour, water and shortening. Mrs. French conducted a game of con- centration. The meeting closed with the 4-H Pledge. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. French, Thorndale, Sunday, October 19. Shower for bride-elect Miss Janet Westman whose marriage takes place to Mr. Robert Baker on October 16 was honoured with a community shower Thursday evening at Wesley United Church, Ladies who were responsible for the arrangements were Mrs. Joan McClary, Mrs. Diane O'Shea, Miss Gay Stewart and Mrs. Wm. Stewart also the ladies of Wesley U.C.W. Mrs. Robt. Harloff and Mrs. Elmer Summers were delegates at Ontario Education chairman's conference at the Prince Hotel in Toronto on the weekend, Water coming to Granton There is a lot activity and noise in the Village of Granton these days as work is progressing for the installation of water.
