It is to every school's advantage to have some form of media
through which the events and ideas of the student body may be ex-
pressed. In our school it is the "Guardian" which endeavors to
achieve this function,
However; this function cannot possibly be achieved if there is no
one willing to contribute their services to the paper. There are
many students who are willing to make the effort to read the ar-
ticles but it's another story when it comes down to actually
writing. Upon occasion there must be something on which every
student would like to express his or her opinion. Why not do so by
writing an article in the "Guardian".
There is no obligation to write regularly for the paper, although
anyone is welcome to join the staff and contribute weekly if possi-
ble. There is a box in the main office in which all articles may be
deposited.
The "Guardian" assists in uniting the student body through the
accounts of current events which occur within the school. It is one
method of letting you in on what your fellow students are doing
and it serves as a link between students and, the surrounding com-
munities. Let's not see our paper die out!

The audience at this student
performance was generally well

the enjoyment of the play. Most
of the students from South Huron
received excellent seats, and
most enjoyed the performance.

The quality of acting at Stratford

no exception.

Field hockey is a relatively new
sport at South Huron, and as a
result the players are often
hampered by lack of equipment.
Such things as sticks for left-
handed players and uniforms for
the team are non-,existent,
perhaps because the Phys. Ed.
department at South Huron has
had its budget reduced to an
amount that barely covers
established sports such as
basketball.
Because of this, the field
hockey team is considering fund-
raising effortsIsuch as bake sales
and car washes. These events
will be made a success by the
time and effort spent by the team
members themselves and
especially by coach Jim Work-
man.
Tuesday, September 21, South
Huron played its first field
hockey game of the season. The
team tied 0-0 with Parkhill,
Wednesday, September 29, the
field hockey team lost 2-0 at
Medway against a very ex-
perienced team. Two goals were
scored by South Huron, but they
were not credited because of
fouls made by Medway just
before the ball crossed the goal
line,
However, on Thursday, Sep-
tember 30, the team had its first
win of the season, beating
Listowel 1-0. The winning goal
was scored by Lucy Van
Esbroeck during the first half. A
strong offense and defense by
South Huron kept the ball at the
Listowel end during almost the
entire game.
Some Athenian craftsmen choose
roles in a play they hope to
present before the Duke and
Duchess. Oberon and Titania,
rulers of the fairy kingdom, meet
in the moonlit forest. Because he
is angry with her, Oberon plans to
trick Titania into falling in love
with some unlikely creature.
The lovers enter and Oberon's
servant Puck (Tom Kneebone) is
instructed to straighten out the
lover's entanglement using the
love juice of a magic herb. The
craftsmen meet in the forest to
rehearse their play. Puck
bewitches Bottom (Hume
Cronyn) and gives him an ass's
head.
Meanwhile, Oberon has poured
love juice in Titania's eyes and
when awakened, she falls in love
with the ass. Finally, Titania and
Bottom are released from their
spells and the lovers become
correctly matched.

NO TRUCK BIDS
Bidders aren't exactly falling
over each other to acquire the old
Exeter arena.
To date, no bids* have been
received, but two or three people
have looked at the old facility.
Bidding was less than brisk for
the purchase of the town's old
dump truck as well, Only one bid
was received, it being $150 for the
truck and $50 for the box and
hoist.
Council .this week approved the
sale of the truck to Bert Visscher
at the tender price submitted.

Friday, October 1, a group of
South Huron students went to the
Festival Theatre at Stratford to
see "The Tempest." The per-
formance was well up to the usual
high standards set by Stratford.
The play begins with a violent
storm caused by Ariel, a spirit in
the service of Prospero, a
magician who was once the Duke
of Milan and had been exiled to
an island along with his daughter,
Miranda.
The crew of the ship, which
finally lands on the same island,
contains the old Duke's brother,
who usurped his brother's title,
and the son of the King of Naples,
Ferdinand. Ferdinand and
Miranda fall in love, and the play
ends happily with Prospero
regaining his title and pardoning
his bother and his wicked ser-
vant, Caliban.
Humour is injected into the
Pay by the performances of two
drunken clowns, Stephano and
Trinculo, who hatch a bumbling
plot with Caliban to overthrow
Prospero. They, too, are par-
doned by the old Duke.
William Mutt's performance as
Prospero drew a standing ovation
from the audience, while the rest
