T-A Photo H-P Presbytery hosts moderator Huron-Perth Presbytery of the United Church will host the moderator, Dr, Wilbur Howard, Wednesday, October 13. Plans for the day were presented by Rev Rae Grant, minister of Calvary United, Church, Listowel, where presbytery met last week. In accordance with the moderator's wishes to meet the people and see the church at work a bus tour has been arranged. This will be followed by a pork barbecue and a rally. These two events will be held in Mitchell United Church. During the morning session of presbytery Rev. •August Meacham, conference Personnel Officer, and Dr. David Lochhead, Thornbury United Church, gave alternate approaches to the Charismatic movement for the court to consider. Dr. Lochhead is a former professor at Waterloo and St. John's universities. Rev. Meacham said that the Charismatic renewal is the un- wrapping of the defenses within County lets road con tiact At their monthly meeting for September, held on Friday, the Huron County Council learned from the report of the Road Committee that a contract valued at $94,615 has been let to Lavis Contracting Company of Clinton for the paving of County Road 19 from Ethel to Highway 86 near Molesworth, a distance of 5.5 miles. This project had been delayed earlier this year until it could be determined if the County would have sufficient funds. The total cost of the project will be closer to $150,000 since the County is required to supply approximately $42,000 worth of asphalt cement, approximately 6,000 cubic yards of gravel for shouldering and all inspection, surveying and weighing of materials This total price of $150,000 is $9,000 over the Engineer's estimate and could possibly lead to a slight over expenditure by the end of the year, depending on the severity of the winter during November and December, ac- cording to the Road Committee report. It was the opinion of the Committee however, that the cost 'would be even higher if the project was deferred until 1977. The contract was let following a special meeting of the Road Committee on August 26. In the same report clerk- treasurer B.G. Hanly advised that due to a change in financing the County's share of the road budget, the treasurers depart- ment would not be charging the Highways Department with interest for borrowing. This will result in a saving in the Road Department budget of some $35,000 and this saving vill in part help offset the high winter control cost and allow the paving of Road 19. ourselves to get to the image of God that is within us. Once this is done new life and new vitality is discovered. Dr. Lochhead compared Charismatic renewal with other movements over the years. He was encouraged that it was springing up within the mainline churches. Tensions arise he said when Charismatics feel that everyone should have their ex- periences or when people without such experiences resent those who have, One positive result was that it was forcing the church to look at other forms of worship. The speakers prompted a healthy discussion and a motion for further study at the next meeting of presbytery, The Singtime committee reported a reduction in the number of programs for the coming season on a different time slot over CKNX-TV, The first presentation was "A Question of Thanksgiving", October 1 at 6:30 p.m. London Conference's first store front resource centre is expected to be officially opened during the Moderator's visit, Located on Mitchell's Main street the centre will be •a source of materials for ministers and programming within the church. Besides literature there will be audio visual resources. The new facility will serve other denominations as, well as the sponsoring church. A number of special events were announced including the availability of the filmed interview with 'Jack Burghardt in the presbytery during November and December. In skit form Mrs. Doris Zur- brigg, Listowel and her com- mittee presented a report on stewardship. It indicated that the United Church was second from the bottom amongst some 20 Canadian churches in average givings per member. By MRS.
