Stratford Northwestern, the local
juniors mounted their only
scoring power in the first
quarter.
Brian Mercer caught a pass
from quarterback Dave Atthill
and went 37 yards for the only
South Huron touchdown,
Doug Hoffman was the main
ball carrier for SH gaining 101
yards in 17 carries. Ddve Atthill
completed two of five pass at-
tempts good for 47 yards.
Good scoring attempts were
nullified in the second quarter on
two occasions when the Panthers
fumbled on the seven and 12 yard
lines,

In the exhibition win over
Strathroy, the South Huron
juniors were able to put together
a good offensive drive coupled
with a stout defense. Strathroy
was able to pick up only five first
downs In the entire game.

The Panthers took ,a lead in the
first quarter when Dave Atthill's
28 yard punt went for a single
point, Atthill added another point
on a similar play in the second
minute of the second period.
With less than four minutes
Dawson put six points on the
scoreboard for his team with a
touchdown from the two yard
line. Doug Hoffman, was suc-
cessful on a two point con-
version run.
The final six South Huron
points came early in the fourth
period when Ted Triebner scored
on a short two yard plunge.
Doug Hoffman was the top
ground gainer for the locals with
54 yards in 17 carries.

Fair races
a success
The large crowd at Exeter Fair
Saturday afternoon was treated
to an excellent six heat card of
harness racing.
Margo Johnston, driven by Art
Abbott won the featured sixth
race and chalked up the fastest
time of the afternoon in 2.09 and
two-fifths.
The Abbott driven pacer just
nipped Hyatt's Boy driven by
Dennis Morrissey at the wire in a
thrilling finish,
The first race was won by Judy
Ma thers with Mac Sewers
driving and Joannie Camp owned
by Jack and Donald Porter of
Lucan took the second half of the
daily double which paid only
$6.70.
Flim Flam owned by Ken
Hardy and G. Meriam of Lucan
won the third event and Cham-
pion Hit owned by Dennis Jewitt
captured the fourth race.
Winner of the fifth event was
Prima Daisy owned by Jack
Bettke of Elmira, formerly of
Hensall and R. B. Baynham,
Kippen.
A total of $5,300 was wagered
through the pari-mutuel
facilities.
Driver Mac Sewers of Lon-
desboro was thrown from the cart
while driving Sunday Chimes in
the second race.
He is still in Clinton Hospital
suffering from knee injuries.

Van Esbroeck finished in 10th
spot just one position ahead of
Janet Gielen.
The following day in Aurora
against another group of top high
school stars, Paul Wareing was
11th in 18 minutes and 37 seconds,
Wes Abbott was 30th in 20
minutes and 33 seconds and Paul
Van Esbroeck was 31st in a time
two seconds slower.
In a girls two mile event
Pauline Gielen was 18th in a time
of 15 minutes and 41 seconds and
Janet Bilcke placed 20th in a time
of 16 minutes and 16 seconds.
Sunday in the annual

with 150 of the top female runners
