The first fall meeting of the
Grand Bend Women's Institute
was held Thursday afternoon at
the home of president, Mrs, Nola
Taylor, when 16 members and
one visitor assembled for a pot
luck luncheon.
Roll Call was answered by "A
verse from an old school
book".
A collection of old school books
were on display, one dating to
1885.
An invitation was accepted
from Elimville W.I. to attend
their Halloween masquerade,
October 13 at Vsborne Central
School.
The W.I. fall rally will be held
in Dashwood October 4. The area
convention dates are November 9
and 10 at Tillsonburg.
A collection of $18.50 was taken
at this meeting to be handed in
for Tag day for South Huron
Hospital,
Discussion followed on a craft
fair to be held this fall,
Mrs. Alec Hamilton, as
Curator, spoke to the ladies about
the sand dunes, south of Grand
Bend and some along Lake
Ontario that .are unique in the
world. She also gave excerpts
from a talk given by F.W.I.O.
President, Mrs. Herb Maluske, at
the Conference last spring in
Waterloo. The meaning of words,
communication and lack of it.
The motto, "Our heritage is a
priceless treasure entrusted to
our care", was given by Mrs.
Hugh Morenz.
Hostesses were Ann Fassold,
Jeanne Kading and Annie
Morenz.

Robin and Lawrence McVittie,
Southampton, have spent two
weeiks with their grandparents,
Mr.•, & Mrs. Lawrence Johnson,
while their parents were on
vacation.
Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs.
Orville Farrell were Mr. & Mrs.
Frank McKenzie, Lucknow, and
Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Rowe, Port
Huron,
Weekend guests with Rev, and
Mrs. Harley Moore, were his
aunt, Mrs. Harold Robbins, of
near Toronto, and his parents,
Mr. & Mrs. Russell Moore of
Nokomis, Florida.
Mr. & Mrs. George Latta and
Mr. & Mrs. Orville Farrell, were
Friday night guests of their aunt
and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. Jim
Prance and celebrated Freda's
birthday.
Mr. & Mrs. Louie Walker, of
Pontiac, Michigan, spent a few
days with their daughter and
family, Rev. and Mrs. John
Campbell, Laura Lee and
Douglas.
While here the "Walker s"
celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary. They all travelled to
Blyth on the weekend where they
had pictures taken, and were
dinner guests with Rev. Camp-
bell's parents, Mr. & Mrs. A.
Douglas Campbell.
Mrs. Mae Holt and Beulah Halt
visited, Monday, at Sarnia with
Mr. & Mrs. Jack Riddock.
Rev. H. Moore was guest

Eight members of the United
church women met last Thursday
evening at Mrs. Joan Eagleson's
home for an executive meeting.
Mr. & Mrs. Jack Smith of
Wiarton visited Sunday with her
father Ezra Webb and also with
Mr. & Mrs. Art Finkbeiner. Other
visitors with the Finkbeiners
during the weekend were Mr. &
Mrs. Jack McKenzie, Windsor
and Mr. & Mrs, Charles Fink-
beiner, of Florida,
Mrs. Lynne (Garry) Desjar-
dine and Brenda Desjardine
spent three days in Toronto last
week. They enjoyed their stay at
Holiday Inn, shopping and CN
Tower excursions.

The Grand Bend squirts
baseball team played Saturday in
the second annual tournament at
Walton. In the first round Grand
Bend beat Chepstow by a 3 to 2
score.
Mark Boogemans hit a single
and brought in Grand Bend's first
run. Dean Watt had a triple in the
fifth inning, Bobby Nichols hit a
single in the seventh and stole
home. This proved the best
game of the day.
In Grand Bend's second game
they were beaten by Sebringville
with an 8 to 4 score. Dean
Courtney of Grand Bend hit a
home run in the fourth inning.
Sebringville won the Don
Achillen Memorial trophy.
The Grand Bend squirts
coaching staff wish to thank the
village of Walton for the in-
vitation and the reception they
received from the tournament
organizers.
This tournament was
scheduled for Labor Day
weekend but one of the tour-
nament organizers, Don
Achillen, was accidentally killed
and the tournament postponed to
September 18.

Our Lady of Mount Cthmel Church was the setting for the August 14
wedding of Miriam Rosenberg and Joseph Terpstra. The bride is the
daughter of Elizabeth and Marinus Rasenberg, RR 3, Zurich and the
groom's parents are Johanna and Nicholas Terpstra, RR 3, Brussels.
Rev. J. G. Mooney officiated. The maid of honour was Ellen Greb and
the bridesmaids were Caroline Rosenberg and Rosemary Terpstra. The
best man was John Dekroon and guests were ushered by Adrian
Rasenberg and Nick Terpstra. Janice Baersen was flower girl and the
ring bearer was Paul Van Bakel. After a wedding trip to the
Collingwood area the couple will take up residence at RR 3, Brussels.

wedding on Saturday in Hensall
United Church and the reception
and dance at the Clinton Com-
munity Centre Saturday evening.

Thirty-five people attended the
Fellowship Group meeting at
Elimville on Sunday evening,
Mrs. Marty DeJonge welcomed
everyone and Rev. Barry
Robinson read a Scripture
Lesson. Rev Wesly Ball of Gorrie
spoke on his work as a chaplain in
a maximum security prison and
his views on some of the con-
troversial issues of crime and
punishment facing us today.
The first 4H meeting "The
Cereal Shelf" was held on
Monday evening at the home of
the leader Mrs. Judith Parker.
