A good tournament
We would like to pass on special congratulations to the
executive and all members of the Exeter Kinsmen club for
the operation of a successful softball tournament, Sunday,
It was the sixth time the local service club has spon-
sored this event open to all clubs in their zone. Probably due
to the excellent weather, all but one of the dozen clubs sent
a team and this forced a move to Huron Park and the use of
two diamonds.
Bert Johnson and his Listowel club won the cham-
pionship for the third straight time. Other teams competing
were from Clinton, Harriston, Mitchell, Monkton,
Lucknow, Drayton, Mount Forest, Hensall and Wingham.
Kinsmen Eric Finkbeiner and Wayne King were in
charge of the event while president Bob Reynolds and past
president Dennis Hockey spent most of the day in the food
booth. Well done, fellows.
Ready for the gridders
This afternoon, Thursday, the two South Huron
District High School teams will officially open the Huron-
Perth Conference season when they travel to Stratford to
meet Northwestern.
Senior coach Ron Bogart and his veteran helper Glenn
Mickle• were not faced with any personnel chopping
problems as they have signed up all 33 candidates for the
team.
The situation faced by junior coaches Dave Cox and
Colin Lowndes was much different. They were confronted
in opening workouts with close to 70 aspiring candidates.
Of the 33 .masenior roster, about half are from a year
agt? Which will giye the coffolt's a.f air nucleus of experienc-
ed talent to work Mth.
