CB enthusiast hears
from 'First' Mama
Thanks to excellent broadcast
conditions a few weeks ago a
Crediton CB enthusiast was able
to make contact with a famous
person.
One evening early in August
Gerry Gaiser spent a few hours
with his favorite hobby,
Ile was in radio contact with a
lady who said she was from the
United States and identified
herself as "First Mama,"
The Gaiser family was thrilled
to receive a letter last week from
the White House in Washington
and it was signed by Betty Ford
and identified herself as "First
Mama,"
The letter from the wife of US
president Gerald Ford read as
follows:

Category 1 - $11,350 (10,500) to
$19,450 (18,200); Category 2 -
$11,775 (10,900) to $20,000
(18,700); Category 3 - $12,925
(12,000) to $22,600 (21,000);
Category 4 - $13,600 (12,500) to
$24,275 (22,450),
Secondary school principals
will be paid a maximum salary of
$33,600 and vice-principals'
salaries range up to $29,150.
As part of the settlement, both
the teachers and the Board
agreed to cooperate in
establishing a Committee on
Mutual Concerns which will
discuss such matters as staffing,
class sizes, and other conditions
affecting quality education. The
joint committee will make
recommendations to the Board.

In separate meetings held last
week, the 263 secondary school
teachers employed by The
Middlesex County Board of
Education and the Board
ratified a salary agreement for
the 1976-77 school year. The
teachers are members of District
41 of the Ontario Secondary
School Teachers' Federation.
According to Mr. J.W. Sifton,
Chief Negotiator for the teachers,
and Mr. G. Dafoe, Chairman of
the Board's Negotiating Com-
mittee, the settlement, reached
after about six months of
meetings will cost the Board
approximately 8 per cent and is
within the limits permitted by the
Federal Government's Anti-
Inflation legislation, The set-
tlement is being sent to the Anti-
Inflation Board for approval,
The salary grid itself is ap-
proximately 10 percept higher
than last year's grid, but there is
no provision in the new
Exeter Agricultural Society
secretary Garnet Hicks has
announced the results of the
barley and winter wheat com-
petitions held in conjunction with
the 1976 Exeter Fall Fair.
Elmer Powe was named barley
champion with a score of 91.
Close behind second spot with 90
was George Sereda. Third place
went to Bob Down with 85 and
Allan Rundle and Wayne Tuckey
were deadlocked in fourth
position with identical scores of
84.
Lorne Passmore and Howard
Pym each accumulated scores of
83, Winston Shapton checked in
with 81 and Ed Miller scored 79.
The winter wheat winner was
Howard Pym with a score of 96.
Ed Miller was the runnerup with
95, Gerald Dearing scored 94 and
Donald Dearing's score was 93.
George Sereda placed fifth at
92, Elmer Powe registered 91,
Bob Down's score was 90, Tom
Triehner hit 89 and Winston
Shapton and Allan Rundle closed
out the prize winners with equal
scores of 88.
In both divisions growers are
not required to bring samples to
the fair.

Principal of Centralia College of
Agricultural Technology, when
asked about the increased
enrollment at the College this
year.
In reporting on the total
enrolment of 300, MacDonald
said, "We are pleased with the
interest in our programs as
shown by the growth in student
enrolment. It proves our
programs are very current.
Centralia College, located in
Huron Park. in Huron County,.
registered a 15 percent increase
in student numbers when classes
started on Monday, September
13.
The Agricultural Business
Management course experienced
the largest increase in students, a
35 percent increase in first year
enrollment over 1975. This
program prepares graduates for
a career in farming or for ex-
cellent jobs in agribusiness.
The Food Service Management
program recorded a 40 percent
increase in first year enrollment.
Graduates from this program
are qualified to work as Food
Service Supervisors in Canada's
rapidly expanding food service
industry. Other diploma
programs offered at the College
include Animal Health
Technology, Community Home
Economics and Fashion,
The College, started in 1967, is
one of four Agricultural Colleges
in Ontario operated by the
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture
and Food.
