My complaint concerns a credit card which I had never
ordered but nevertheless received, along with a form letter
to which the card was attached. I threw it in a desk drawer
and promptly ignored and forgot about it.
Much to my amazement I have now received a letter
from this company thanking me for "using my card" and
enclosing a bill for $21.23. I worded them a strong reply
informing them of their error and also informing them that
I had no intention of doing business with their company,
but the only reply I got for my efforts was, another bill, and
this one had interest added.
I have absolutely no intention of paying fer something
that I know nothing about, nor do I intend to waste time
and postage in writing this company any further.
That such things as this go on, just, "boggles my mind"
so I pass it on to you to do with as you see fit!
We have been informed that this, unfortunately, can and does
happen "occasional/y" at their computer and processing depart-
ment, but we have been assured that our reorder's fictitious ac-
count and charges have now been nullified,

I had a representative call at my home who offered to
have my child's baby boots bronzed for $24.00
He tried to get me to give him the full amount at that
time but this I refused to do. I told him that the most I could
afford to give him was $10 down and that I would have
the other $14 for him when he delivered the boots in 2 or 3
weeks (as promised by him).
This he agreed upon but since then I am out the $10
plus my baby's boots. I have phoned and written this com-
pany many times since but all I get is promises which are
never kept.
Can you do anything to solve this for me please?
When "IMPACT" got in touch with this company they told us
that your baby's boots had been delivered to your home on four
different occasions but that you were never home, in spite of the
fact, (they claim) that you hod made promises to have someone
at your house when delivery was to be made, and they also
claim that they finally wrote and told you that you had to pick
them up yourself but apparently you could or would not do this.
After quite a lengthy phone call with us they have finally
agreed to send them to you, C.O.D. for the balance owing plus
postage.

Before moving here from Toronto I contacted several •
movers from the Yellow Pages to get an estimate on what
it would cost but I have come to the unhappy conclusion
that FREE estimates in this business don't mean a damn
thing, and I'm further convinced that some firms obviously
estimate lower on purpose just to try and get the job,
which of course in my case is exactly what happened.
The lowest estimate I got was between $450 and
$500 but when the job had been completed I was shocked
to be informed that it had suddenly jumped to $753.60. I
had to issue a cheque before my furniture was unloaded,
and I must admit I had a few unpleasant words for the
men who did the actual unloading although I realize that
this was no fault of theirs, anyway it seems ludicrous to
me, that an experienced estimator would be that far off in
assessing the weight of a load.
I realize that it's probably too late to help me with my
case, but perhaps you could warn other readers to be very
careful when choosing a mover.
The Ontario Highway Transport Board is the place to contact
when actual weight is being disputed, because a person
challenging the weight can DEMAND that the truck and goods
be RE-WEIGHED at a government inspected weigh scale.
