Grunion groups ready for activities

A delegation of members met
to clean up the scout ball and give
the floor another coat of varnish
in readiness for the first meeting
of the fall season, Thursday af-
ternoon September 9,
For recreation there is now
pool, carpet ball, shuffleboard,
cards and other games,It is hoped
that a Leather craft class can be
started, there has to be ten in the
class in order to get free in-
struction from Tandy's Leather
goods store in London.

pelier, Ohio, is vacationing at the
home of her sister and brother-in-
law, Mr. & Mrs, Kenneth
Hodgins. Sunday visitors with
them were Mr. & Mrs. Don

Beth Lambie of Thedford was
holidaying last week with her
cousins, Donna, Linda and
Barbara Wilson.

guests at the Dawson-Blair
wedding in the United Church,
Saturday afternoon.

Scout and cub news
Cubs and scouts, registration
night is Monday September 13 at
7 p,rn. at the Scout Hall, all boys
"going up" to scouts be sure to be
there. Also, any young boys that
will be 8 years this year are
eligible to become cubs.

service in the United Church
Sunday morning was a vocal duet
by Messrs. Douglas Gill and
Harry Schroeder with Miss
Elaine Powe at the piano. The
offertory music was an organ and
piano duet by Mr. Gill and Elaine
Powe. Both numbers were ap-
preciated by those attending the
service.
Mr. & Mrs, Tom Kooy, Mr. &
Mrs. Clayton Kooy, Bonnie and
Clyde spent the weekend in
Dunnville visiting with Mrs.
Warren Clark and Jean.

Mr, & Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins
and family have returned from a'
very interesting two weeks to the
Maritime Provinces, travelling
from Niagara Falls through New
York State to the Adirondack
Mountain to St. John's MB.
They crossed the Bay of Fundy
on the ferry boat Princess of,
Arcadia the largest of its kind in
Canada, a two and a half hour
crossing to Digby N.S. where
they were the guests of Rev. &
Mrs. R.N. Savary, Rev. Savary
was the former minister of St.
Thomas Anglican Church.
The Hodgins family spent three
day with the Savary's and were
taken to see Savary Park which
was land donated to the Govern-
ment by Rev, Savary's grand-
father in memory of the Savary
family.
In this park is a private
cemetery where the Savary
ancestors are buried; at the
Annapolis Royal Museum they
saw the plaque with the Savary
Coat of Arms on the wall and
various other items donated to
the Museum in memory of Rev.
Sa vory's great grandfather, they
also visited Fort Anne in that
city.
Then travelling through Nova
Scotia and New Brunswick
stopping at points of interest
along the way, they returned
home by way of the St. Lawrence
River area and Quebec to Lan-
caster Ontario and called on Mr.
& Mrs. Gordon Hodgins and
family.

relatives from Granton attended
the Open House in honor of Mr. &
Mrs, William Riddell's 60th
wedding anniversary held at the
home of their son Alex at Thorn-
dale, Sunday afternoon,
Mrs, Florence Bremner,
London spent a few days with her
sister Mrs. Alice Bryan, also
enjoying a visit with Mrs. Bryan
were her three granddaughters
from Exeter, Donna, Heather
and Brenda Riddell.

Miss Evelyn Walkom of Kit-
chener visited ontheweekend with
Miss Ethel Copeland.
The Kirkton-Woodham Far-
mers club members gathered at
Kirkton-Woodharn community
centre Wednesday evening after
a delicious dinner served by the
Dixie Lee of St. Marys.
There was an exhibition ball
game followed by a program in
the community centre hall. Lee
Paul was chairman for the oc-
casion. Rae Stephens gave the
opening address and welcomed
Mr. Bruce Murray of St. Marys
as the guest speaker.
Mrs. Murray was invited to the
platform and was presented with
a beautiful bouquet of roses by
Ray Paynter: Three girls and a
boy from Mitchell entertained
with tap dancing numbers ac-
companied by Mrs. Doris
Westman and Nelson Howe.
Ann Marie Paynter and Susan
Maddock entertained with baton
twirling, Kimberly Heather and
Michael Brine piano in-
strumentals.
Mrs. Alva Godbolt of Listowel
has been visiting with Mrs.
Horace Greenstreet and Mr. &
Mrs. Ross Cooke and family.
