The Fords were a team to be Holtzmann wins in golfing event Dave Holtzmann fired a 78 to win low gross honours at Tuesday's men's night golfa tourney at the Ironwood course. Best low net in the A flight was Gord Ross with a 73. Charlie Merryfield carded an 88 to turn in the lowest gross score in the B flight. Rob Spenek with a 74 took the low net prize. In the C division Ken Edwards won low gross with a 100 and Bruce Shaw fired a 76 to take the low net title. Ed Pountney was the most honest golfer and the hidden score prize went to Barry Southcott. In Thursday's junior tourney which was limited by rain, Rich Fletcher was best in low gross with a 96 and Wayne Parsons with a 76 won low net. Doug Raymond was the most honest golfer. Two upcoming tourneys for juniorswill be a two-ball foursome to-day August 19 and a monkey golf event, August 26. Free swim set for Lucan pool By BRIAN McHENRY Friday, between 2 and 4 p.m. a free swim period will be offered to the young people of Lucan. This free swim has been donated by the Lucan Women's Institute. Adult swimming has been attended by a few regulars who are taking advantage of the whole pool to get in some fitness swimming.' Adult swimming continues for the next two weeks on Tuesday and Thursday 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Swim registration for the fourth Red Cross swim program is the lowest of the summer with 57 swimmers enrolled. Cool temperatures, and cold water has definitely affected both the swim program and the recreational swimming. Thursday, August 17, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. the Lucan Swim team will be competing against London Northridge at the Northridge pool. PLAYOFFS SET The Crediton juniors will see their first playoff action this week in the Western Ontario . Athletic Association , when they meet Clinton. Crediton's home contest is slated for the Dashwood diamond, Sunday night with game time set for 8 p.m. The Exeter Fords, missing five of their regular first string players, beat a Clinton team giving goalie Doug Brooks his seventh shutout of the season and the Fords their eighth, Clinton, who played Exeter at Crediton squads prep for playoffs Five runs in the sixth inning allowed the Crediton juveniles to score a 7-6 exhibition victory over the Crediton juniors, Wednesday. Both clubs are awaiting playoff opponents in the Western Ontario Athletic Association. The five run uprising for the winners came as the result of three walks, doubles from the bats of Mark Chandler and Mike Desjardine and singles by Dan „Heywood and Larry Clarke, The first juvenile score in the second inning was produced on a home run by Paul Brooks. In the third, Brian Taylor singled and was able to come around on a series of errors. The juniors hit the scoreboard in the first frame when Keith Davey doubled and scored on a single by Kevin Bestard. In the sixth, the juniors managed to score five times and temporarily take the lead. Kevin Bestard doubled and Pete Wuerth, Roger Dougall, Paul Truemner and John Wuerth added singles. The juveniles pitching chores were shared by Paul Brooks, Larry Clarke, Doug Mcisaac and Dan Heywood while Pete Wuerth went the seven inning distance for the juniors. Tires going?
