Concerning the community sign which has been rented by the Huron Country Playhouse for the season it has been decided that this would be handled in the same method as last year. The sign may be used for all community events free of charge. A donation for maintenance of the sign would be welcome. Every year the Chamber receives a grant for $1500. In the previous year it had been used for the salary of the information booth employee. A suggestion was made that the Chamber donate back the grant to the Council in order- to provide parking signs on the main street of Grand Bend. rho, column that's road for a purpoor i#AP..„......... by Scotty Homilton . Chamber hears suggestions for spending burger profits Finding a use for the profit of this years Buffaloburger Fest was the main topic at the Grand Bend Chamber of Commerce meeting Tuesday evening. The net profit was estimated at $6,431.79, a 33 percent increase over last year. A portion of the profit ($2,800) has already been pit to use in the community sign which advertises the Huron Country Playhouse performances. The sign is located over the bridge on hwy. 21. Many suggestions were, made by Chamber members and visitors concerning use of Festival profits. One member suggested that a portion of the money should be put aside to improve on future, festivals, proper fences and gates will be needed to control the amount of people entering the area, along with well identified security personpel. These funds should be at the disposal of the organizing committee. It has been rumored that one of the service clubs" of the area is looking at property for a com- munity wee**. area, Some,, 3;rtpaey.W.utlid be ,usefttl'117.° in the cemStructiOn of the park; One visitor suggested that they match the annual village grant of $1,500 to acquire a by-law en- forcement officer for the village. This would greatly improve some of the problems in the summer months. Washroom facilities has also been a topic high on the list of village improvements. It has been suggested that a building with washroom and shower facilities should be constructed in the same area as the information booth. This cannot be done until a proper sewage system is operational, which may take a few years. Other suggestions will be welcomed by the Chamber. The date for next years Buf- faloburger Fest was set for June 17th and 18th. Chamber President George Kadlecik brought up the topic of the serious parking problems in the village during the summer months. MEMBER THE ONTARIO OF , ASSOCIATION FUNERAL \ SERVICE I am a fairly new resident to Ontario, having come up from The Maritimes,, but my luck has not been all that good since I got here, starting out with a traffic accident the se- cond day after my arrival. I think I am going to need the services of crr lawyer but quite frankly, just can't afford one. I have heard b bout your legal aid program in Ontario but my question is, how long do I have to be a resident before I would be eligible to apply for legal aid? Any help or advice that IMPACT can offer me will be greatly appreciated. Sorry to hear that your luck has not been the best, so far, however as for as your status to apply for legal assistance here in the Province of Ontario is concerned, we are pleased to inform you that there is NO waiting period involved as there is no residency requirement for the granting of a legal aid certificate in Ontario. Even a person not ordinarily a resident in Ontario may, at the discretion of the Provincial Director of the Plan, be granted a certificate entitling him, (or her) to free legal services. We strongly suggest, however, that you waste no time in applying as there is often quite a backlog of cases to be process- ed. 4.1vci It ,illil 1. I realize that I acted very foolishly but I'm wondering what I can do to obtain some sort of compensation from him which I feel is due. Here is what happened: My boss sweet-talked me into having relations with him. He is a married man, and like many executives con- fided his problems in his secretary. He said he was unhap- pily married, and he wanted to marry me as soon as he got a divorce. I guess this is about the oldest line there is, but I fell for it. After a while, he dropped -me and made up with his wife. I'm pretty angry now and I want to know what I can do. There is really nothing you can do. You could not sue for breach of contract to marry. A contract to marry is void at law where it is entered into with the knowledge that the other party is still married. There is a criminal offence of seduction of a female employee, but the offence only arises where the female is under 21 years of age, of previous chaste character, and where the male is "more to blame" for the seduction than the female. •uktirply C ' '17 - STORES 23703456 MOUNT CARMEL YAMAHA Sales & Service OPEN Weekdays 10 -1016r) Sundays 12 - 6 ‘s... My insurance company wants to sue the other driver and they tell me they have been "subrogated" to my rights against him. I didn't have a clue as to what this all meant and I asked them to explain, but I'm still not very clear about it and so I wonder if you'd be kind enough to explain in detail, just what this "subrogation" bit means — thank you. You have no cause for concern, your insurance company is ac- ting on your behalf in a quite proper manner, because by sub- rogation, your insurance company simply hops into your shoes, obtaining all your rights against the offending driver. That is, you could sue the other driver but it is more common that the insurance company will settlewith you and then go after the other guy or his insurance company, having been subrogated to your rights. Thus, A acquiresy B's rights against C by being sub- rogated to B's rights. Subrogation is a concept running throughout the law of con- tract.
