HAROLD DAVIS KIRKTON Miss Heather Urquhart of Toronto has been holidaying at her parents home Mr. & Mrs. Jack Urquhart, Miss Wendy Blackler of London is spending two weeks vacation with her parents Mr. & Mrs. Burns Blackler. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon 'Yule of Toronto spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Paul, Mr. & Mrs. Ed Watterton of London called on Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Pa.ul this week. Mrs. Reverend Mills returned home last week from an en- joyable month's vacation in England. Mr. & Mrs. Brian Hardeman and girls spent the past week holidaying in the United States. Mr. & Mrs. Bill Schaefer and Susan attended a Veterinarian Convention in Cinncinniti U.S.A. this past week. Mr. & Mrs. Wills of Wainfleet visited this week with Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Marshall. Miss Linda Marshall counsellor at Woodeden Camp, London, sp:nt the weekend at her home. Mrs. Mervena Hazlewood and Edison of Saginaw spent four days this week with Mr, & Mrs. Charlie Paul. Mrs. George Sherman of London visited this week with Mr. & Mrs. Roy Switzer. Mrs. J. McCormick was hostess for a bridal shower in honor of Miss Martha Klahre of London Tuesday evening. The bride to be is a sister of Mrs, Bernard McCormick of Lucan. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Loughleen of Toronto spent the weekend with Mrs. Albert Bickell. Mrs. Alex Irvine has returned home after being a patient in St. Marys Memorial Hospital. Miss Monica Eveleigh of Toronto spent the weekend with her parents Mr. & Mrs. Allan Eveleigh and family. Mr. Miller McCurdy is a patient in St. Marys Memorial Hospital at time of writing. Mrs. Joan McCormick and Mrs, George Hall visited Sunday at Ipperwash Park with Mr. & Mrs. Don Barber, Wendy and Terri of Collingwood, Mrs. Bill Smythe of London, daughter, husband and family of Niagara visited Monday with Mrs. Miller McCurdy and Mrs, Harold Davis. Mrs. Doug Coward was hostess to a bridal shower for Jane Van Roestel last Thursday evening. Mr. Metcalfe of Scotland is visiting with his daughter Rev. & Mrs. Grant Dawson and Shawn, Master Jeff Henry of London is visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Mark Henry, Preparations are being com- pleted for the sixth annual Friedsburg Days which will be held in Dashwood Friday and Saturday of this week. The entire community has banded together to produce entertainment and food foi the expected large crowds. Several new attractions have been added to an already well developed program, Several work nights have been held to line up the food. About 30 were at Merner's Meat Market on Monday, July 19 to prepare the main appetite satisfiers. About 1,000 pounds of sausage were manufactured, cooked and then put into freezers. Hugh Boyle and Doug Riddell were the sausage makers while Jean Ford was in charge of cooking more than 800 pounds of sauerkraut. One change in the format this year will be the fact all activities will take place at the Community Centre and pavilion grounds. In other years sporting events were staged at the athletic field. The food and refreshment tents and booths will be open from 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday and from noon to midnight on Saturday. The main attractions Friday night will be a talent show and selection of Miss Friedsburg. A new event, a soap box derby will start Saturday's action away a 10:30 a,m, Racing will take place on the hill south of Dash- wood near the farm of Earl Stebbins. Anyone wishing to enter the derby should contact Herb Piper. Judging of parade entries will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday with the actual parade leaving the athletic field an hour later. Arm wrestling preliminaries will start at 3.30 p.m. with tug-of- war going at 4 p.m. Also at 4, a pet show will be held. Emphasis in the pet show will be put on novelty entrants with prizes for longest ears, hair, etc. The sports finals will continue at 7 p.m. and a dance will follow at 9 p.m. Sports director Jack Ford is anxious to receive more entries for the tug-of-war in both the senior and pee wee divisions. Ford is looking for local entries.
