Members of the Lucan United

August 8,
Prayers and the collect for the
fifth Sunday after Trinity were
read and Rev. John Holland
spoke from the First Epistle of
Paul to the Corinthians. He said
when, Paul could not visit the new
churches regularly he wrote
them letters filled with words of
encouragement to strengthen
them in following the teaching of
the apostles.
Mr. Holland brought this into
our present day lives saying that
we should share our love of Jesus
and our Christian beliefs with
others, even though we may get a
"cold shoulder" from some,
Many try to live their lives
within the framework of
Christianity, sincerely, humbly
and persisently. He said not to
expect "the parson to do
everything" —Jesus uses each of
us in our own places.
Mentioning the Olympics Mr.
Holland pointed out that while all
the 10,000 young people are
striving for supremacy in each of
their events, only three medals
are available for each event. St.
Paul says there is a crown of
glory for "all" who strive for
supremacy in the Christian life.

now of Hensall, renewed old
friendships. Mrs. George Miller

The resignation, through ill

Here is the good news our
members have been waiting for.
Plans are under way to build an
extension to our present
establishment.
Yes, Comrades, it will be twice
the size and the building com-
mittee are at this very moment
working on suitable plans on how
we wish the extention to be built
after which time they will be
handed over to an architect to
draw them up properly.
Sure will be great when it is
finished. To make this long time
dream come true Branch 540 is
going to require the continued
support from all its members.
Comrade President will be
calling for a work party soon to
finish off on the renovations to the
present lounge. Please place your
name on the list provided. With a
proper crew on deck it shouldn't
take more than a few hours of
good honest work to finish it up.
Have you been over to the
watering hole recently, if not, let
me assure you that you and your
lady are in for a very pleasant
surprise. Make it a point to drop
in for an evening,
Li'l Len Fisher, one of our
amiable stewards is presently on
vacation `up in God's country'.
We received a card saying he is
still trying to catch that Big One.
Also, that the weather was so cool
it was necessary to wear a coat.
Wonder if he will find the time to
pick any blueberries (ahem),
The Pot o' Gold continues to
grow — Comrade Harold Butler's
name was drawn last Saturday —
but unfortunately he was not
registered.
Mum and dad please don't
forget the date of Branch 540's
annualmembers children's picnic
is Sunday, July 25 at Hillbilly
Hudgins farm, time around 1:30
p.m. There will be races, hot-
,dogs, hamburgers just about
everything to make it an en-
joyable day for the children.
Don't disappoint them now. Make
it a special day for them and have
a pleasant day yourself.
And that's 30 for this week
remember — Too many people
are so busy telling the world what
is wrong with it, they haven't
time to improve it.

vestigated this week by detach-
ment officers with damages
