Church news
At the United Church Rev.
Mary McInally conducted the
Sunday morning service and took
her sermon from the scripture
lesson Ephesians 4, 11-16 "Called
to be Evangelists".Evangelism,is
the willingness of men 'to
acknowledge God as their Savior
and King, and to spread that
knowledge so that Christians
may be properly equipped for
God's service. This applies to lay
people as well as ministers, said
Rev. McInally.
The Sunday School teacher is
an example of evangelism, the
lessonto the pupil goes back to the
home through the child, to speak
the good word for Jesus is
everyones duty.
The Treble Clef's, an all girl
choir from the Simcoe area
received a warm welcome on
their return visit to the church.
This talented group under the
direction of Mrs. Shirley Knowles
favored with the following
selections, all unaccompanied
but one,"Spirit of the Lord",
"Runnin' ", "Pilgrim's Song",
"Harmony" and "Dear Land of
Home."
Summer School opens on July
26 to July 30 from 9-11 a.m., so

Three gold medals will be
coming to Lucan as the result of
Olympic events held Saturday
and Sunday in Montreal.
The medals were not won as the
result of a first place finish in
swimming, track and field,
gymnastics, etc., but in pigeon
racing.
Close to 100 birds were released
from the Olympic dome shortly
before 5 p.m. Saturday in Mon-
teal and three belonged to fan-
ciers from the Lucan homing
pigeon club.
A bird from the Mert Culbert
flock was the first home at 2:34
p.m. Sunday afternoon, Shortly
after 5 p.m. George Noyes
clocked in one of his birds and at
7:59 a Tom Hardy bird found its
home.
The three Lucan birds were
among a large number from
Southwestern Ontario sent to
Montreal and their owners did
not know they were among the
very select few chosen as double
band entrants for the Olympics,
They only found out they were
in line for an Olympic gold medal
when their birds arrived home
with a special band attached.
The first bird home in this area
from Montreal was from the
Exeter flock of Harry Winters. It
arrived at the Winters residence
at 11:20 a.m.
It is estimated the Culbert bird
first home with a gold medal
made the trip from Montreal in
less than 14 hours of actual flying
time,
Birds stop for the night at dusk
which is about 9:15 p.m. and start
the next morning at the crack of
dawn,
In addition to Olympic gold
medals, the three area birds are
in line for 20 trophies and cash
prizes totalling $1,050.
Brevity is the soul of a reasonable
phone bill.
