The junior group, the Little Feathers, planted their seeds in the earth filled window boxes. Many little fingers are crossed hoping to see tiny green shoots in a few days, The' intermediate and senior groups held their scavenger hunt, Monday afternoon and received Lucan wins team tennis A SUPER SPORTY PACKAGE South End Service 235-2322 Chris Mittelholtz scored what was at first an insurance goal, and then was the winning goal, as the Exeter under 14's defeated the Exeter under 16's 2-1 Thur- sday at the Canners' Field in an exhibition soccer game, The under 16's have recently acquired a new coach, John De Boeck, who is already working closely with the team. De Boeck feels that within a month his team will be able to defeat the Fords. The game opened with a goal, Friday the Exeter Adventurers hosted the Seaforth Atoms and, scored another convincing vic- tory 9-1. The Adventurers were led in their scoring by Steve Laithwaite and Steve Gould with three goals apiece. The other goals were scored by Joey Martens, Andrew Winters and Rick Gilfillan with one each, To date Steve Laithwaite is the top scorer having scored 15 goals so far this season. In fact the whole forward line of Lathwaite, Winters, Morley, Gould and Gilfillan have shared in the scoring so far. The coaches are pleased with the fact that the boys are learning one of the basics of soccer which is passing the ball, Their positional play remains good and if they continue to remember these two basic features they stand a good chance of doing very well this year. Their next game is scheduled against St. Columban, Wednesday. Two area harness race horses were in the limelight Saturday winning important races. Missile Almahurst owned by Bill Ellerington won a top stakes race at Blue Bonnets track in Montreal and Joe Kool, owned and driven by Joe Darling won an OHHA stake race at Hanover. Mr. Joe Kool with Saturday's win has now amassed a total of in the second minute of play, from outside right Phil De Haan who positioned himself well to divert a corner kick into the net. The Fords were leading 1-0. For a period of time the game swung both ways for the teams but no goals were forthcoming. The Fords were awarded a penalty by referee Al Beatty and Doug Hoffman skimmed the outside of the post on the shot. The game continued with the Exeter mosquitoes scored three terrific goals against Clinton, Monday night but were unable to come up with others and came out on the losing end 5- 3, The game was more evenly contested than the score in- dicated and with a little• more luck they could have managed a tie. Clinton scored first on a high shot which beat goalkeeper Walter Van Essen and a few minutes later Dave Shaw booted in a high drive which went into the upper corner of Clinton's goal. Clinton then went on to in- crease their lead to 5-1 in the second half. Exeter put on an effort and Frank Vermaeten put a low drive past Clinton's goalkeeper, after we bad a breakaway, Exeter's last goal was a beautiful shot by Chris Van Gerwen after he received the ball from a combined effort of Frank Giffin and Frank Vermaeten. This team continues to improve and should give a good account of themselves in future games. $4,803 to lead the current four year-old pacing series, The Hanover stop was the half- way point in the 14 track tour which moves to Ottawa's Carleton Raceway on July 30. The top money winners on completion of the tour at Woodstock, September 28, will earn starting positions in the OHHA final at Peterborough, -October 9, under 16's taking the play to the Fords goal causing keeper, Doug Brooks, to make several spec- tacular saves, Then with the play again changing direction Jack Smits passed the ball to inside right, Chris Mittelholtz, who scored the deciding goal. The second half opened with Tom De Boeck skillfullyiweaving around the Fords backs to score a goal off the left post of the goal preventing "Sticky-Fingers" Brooks from getting his fifth shutout of the season. The Fords record now stands at seven wins and three losses for the year. Choice for player of the game for the Fords was a difficult decision but it was narrowed down to three players: Doug Brooks, Doug( Hoffman and Jeff Fuller, all of whom prevented the Under 16's from scoring any moregoals.
