Canada Week
- a left-off
By LAURA JOHNS
Canada week had a great "left-
off-- on Friday, June 25th, as the
students of both Exeter Public
and Precious Blood schools, set
off twenty-one balloons. Attached
to each individual balloon was a
balloon-o-gram. As of yet, there
has been no reply.
Mayor Bruce Shaw, chairman
Ruth Durand, and rec director
Jim McKinlay were in at-
tendance at the opening
ceremonies for Canada week
Sunday night. An in-
terdenominational service
followed and was well attended.
The weather Monday evening
did not permit the scheduled
open-house and demonstrations
at the pool to be held. Never-
theless, the enthusiasm and the
weather was good Tuesday af-
ternoon on the tennis court.
The winners in the various
divisions of the tennis tour-
nament were Dee Beuerman,
ladies' beginners; Fran Shaw,
ladies' intermediate; Kevin
Parsons, men's beginners; and
Randy Parsons, men's in-
termediate. Alf Williams con-
ducted this successful tour-
nament.
Thumbs down on the weather
again on Wednesday June 30 yet
through wind, rain and hail, the
flower and vegetable gardens
were judged for the coveted
Green Thumb Award.
The people recognized for their
contribution in beautifying the
Exeter area in the vegetable
garden category were John
Spacek, 313 Marllborough St.,
Thomas Slavin 183 Andrew St.
and John Stevens, 19 Riverside
Drive.
Also given in random order for
the flower garden category, the
winners were Walter Peitsch, 240
William SI. S., Mrs. Stan Horrell,
90 Sanders E., George Dobbs, 39
Riverside4Dr., Robert Elgie, 254
Pryde Blvd, Nelson Squires, 132
Andrew St., John Stevens, 19
Riverside Dr., and Douwe
Rozendal 373 Marlborough St.,
